Ive been trying to strip a couple of pocket clips from a ZT 350 and Benchmade Griptilian, but the strippers Ive purchased havent been working at all. Im thinking about trading into a user Paramilitary with DLC, but IF I do I want to strip the blade.. BUT I dont have anything that will work. I live in a small town so theres not a whole lot of options for me, so please keep that in mind. What strippers, that arnt too hard to find, are extremely powerful and would completely strip a DLC blade? Thanks in advance!

dlc must be abraded and its a pain, chemical won't work.

^^That.

DLC is electrochemically bonded to the steel, at the molecular level. That's what makes it so tough. Chemical strippers won't touch it, so it would have to be abraded (sanded) off.

just email kershaw/zt and ask for some ZT0550 clips...They come already Silver and are the same as the ZT0350

I sent ZT and Benchmade requests for non coated clips, they are on the way. The knife I was thinking about trading into is what I am really concerned about. Ive never sanded coating off before, or sanded a knife at all... what kind of sandpaper should I be looking for and what grits would get it done the fastest and easiest?

Thanks alot for clearing that up for me guys!

Great title. 511 views in just a few hours...most of them when nobody was awake. Sort of like "Free money".

when i strip the coatings off blades for customers i use my belt sander and a 400 grit belt or a scotchbrite wheel but you can do it with sandpaper and a lot of elbow grease. you can also use scotchbrite pads. the scotchbrite wheel that i have will remove dlc coating in no time and put a satin finish on the blade.

Here is an old pic of a ZT0350 with a sanded pocket clip.
No need for power tools just sandpaper and about half an hour of WET SANDING

That clip looks goreous. Im not looking to mirror polish the clips or blade, but that looks amazing. I just want to take off the coating and either stonewash the clips and either stonewasy or patina the blade.

Ive been looking up scotchbrite wheels and found that there are a ton of different kinds. Can you post a picture or give some more details of the one you use? Im trying to find one that I can attach to my hand drill, I can use dremel bits with it. I dont have a bench grinder so if its an attachment for that then Im SOL.

Thanks for all the help guys!

 OOPS! I actually didnt notice the title until you brought it up, I posted this thread while half asleep on my way to bed. LOL. That is funny though. I guess everyone else must have had advice on finding the other kind of stripper...:p
