While my lovely wife was shopping I wandered over to the clearance isle and came back with this:D

Now I have a surly long haul trucker and a surly steamroller so I really didn't need a cheap bike.
I have stripped it of decals reflectors and ordered a bigger sprocket and yellow chain

How heavy is that guy? I've seen those Mongooses cheap enough that I'm tempted to pick one up as a beater/project.

Wow 50 lbs of bike that thing is a beast !

I have drooled on those but they cost way too much for me. How much was yours?

170ish out the door It was a display model I think they retail for 2 1/2 at big box stores .
I have taken all the cheap reflectors off and all the decals except for the I.D. tag I have a yellow chain and am waiting on a 22 tooth sprocket for the rear to gear it down some

You just have to treat yourself every once in a while, not doing so would be sadistic.

Brutus after I took the decals, reflectors and chain guard off (kick stand may go) changed the rear sprocket to a 22 tooth and yellow chain .. It ain't fast but you can pedal it up a moderate hill now

It doesn't sink in soft ground we have right now like most other bikes
I should get to double the miles on my ride log as even with the lower gearing it is still not the easiest bike to pedal twice the work out
It gets peoples attention

I love it. Wouldn't want to ride it (far) but it is definitely a cool looking machine.

Really nice improvements there! Those are basically pinch flat proof too right?

I had to smile when you posted Brutus.. I thought back to the late 90s/early 00s when we were spending $40.00 on a TI seat bolt to save a few grams!! All the while trying to get closer to a sub 23lb bike!! Thanks!! John

At a tad over #300 I am not real worried about bike weight but the Brutus is flat heavy. I bought it as a Around the block/campground bike. I have a surly long haul trucker and a surly steamroller for serious bike riding. Right now I am putting together a little Italian folding bike that literally was given to me in a basket
