But I just don't see anything that I like from them. Granted they've only been in business for about three years, but then IIRC GEC has been in business about the same amount of time. I'm not a stockman or muskrat guy, so many of their knives just aren't avante garde enough for me to warrant the purchase...but I would really like to support their company

Your thoughts on CS?

They look like a decent company but I haven't seen any one of their knives that makes me want to jump up and buy it.

I had to double check their site since I wasn't sure about their steel. I found slippies in A2, D2, 19c27 Sandvic, and 440c...nothing at their site regarding the use of 420HC

EDIT: It DOES look like their stuff from a year or two ago was 420HC, but their new releases appear to be the steels above.

I have a couple. Nice stag. Nice colors on the bone. Good fit and finish. Their knives are smaller than GEC, it seems to me. Maybe it's just the ones I have.

I like them. Springs are a little soft compared to GEC. Hard part is finding a dealer

I believe they've moved the majority of their new knives to 440C, 14-4CrMo, and D2. The Sandvik as far as I know is used exclusively on the D'Holder knives, and A2 on the ring-turns.

My big problem is steel. Yet another traditional maker with 420HC at 55-57.

Hmm, both of mine have D2. Mine are both '07 Cannitlers, but with different handles (Mastodon & ram's horn). I like Whittlers & Canoes, so the Cannitler, for me, is a very good pattern. Their F&F seems decent. Their springs aren't terribly strong, but they're not too weak either. Their D2 was decently sharp, too, not like Queens. However, I think Queens F&F is better.

I have a caramel/honey bone Trapper in D2, that I bought from a member here. Good snap, good edge on the blades, great F&F. Very nice knife for the money, IMO.

thx - cpr

Yeah, nothing of CS has ever really blown my hair back. But I am looking forward to the (soon?) release of their 3 7/8" swell center jack. I'll probably get one if its not too expensive.

Who are the good dealers? All I've seen must have been the older stock, and because of the steel I've avoided them. However, I do like the looks of their knives.

I'm also not a big fan of the Canal Street shield, but to be fair it is no worse than the Queen shield or the Boker tree brand shield. I'm firmly in the camp of "I haven't seen anything that has really blown my hair back." I would like to find a Canal Street cannitler in some really top shelf stag...

I don't care for the shield either, but I do own a Stockman and Muskrat and the F/F is A1. The two I have are both 420 and Razor sharp. Good knives that are worth the price. This place is close to me so I got to hand pick mine. The older production ones seem to be drying up so now may be the time to pick a couple up in 420.
