... I'm a lefty and I didn't like the right-handed PM2 compression lock - it felt like it was going to fly out of my hand when trying to one-hand open it (you have to pinch it between your thumb and finger) :(

Hence my question - is the Watu essentially the same for lefties? Or does it's smaller frame make it more lefty-friendly?

Many thanks y'all, and sorry if this has been discussed already but I couldn't find such a discussion

Im not a lefty so its not a problem for me. But if what you are after when looking at the Watu is the blade stock being so thin, maybe the Chapparal would be a substitute? Its smaller but thin and slicy with a backlock.

Yes, good call, I've been looking at the raffir noble chaparral but I'm just not digging the traditional Spyderco leaf blade shape at the moment. Fancy something different, with a lock type that I haven't got already.

Oh just BTW, I have a Chokwe en route but don't plan on carrying that much. Cheers.

Watu is a serious slicer. Thin stock and thin distal taper. I would venture a guess that it’s ok left. Wait and I’ll check, yes sir, easy using my left as well.

Sounds like you are trying to flip it open by pinching the compression lock. You could just use the opening hole.

Yeah, one of the nice things about the compression lock is that it doesn't make the action stiff like others while being more secure than a frame/liner lock.

Until i got into flippers on bearings, the pm2 was the best thing going for the $.

Well, yes, but once you've seen someone flip it open like that and you can't because of the lock's handedness bias, the knife just isn't so appealing any more, you know?
