I recently found myself only interested in folders. I used to primarily collect / use fixed blades. I found I get more use out of my folders on a daily bases which may be the reason for the switch in interests. However, I was just wondering if this has happened to anyone else. Has anyone else lost interest in folders or fixed blades for a period of time and why.

Yes I feel the same way. I am certainly lacking in quality folding knives. I blame Busse Combat....they should have made one by now.:D
My most expensive folder is a yellow Victorinox rescue knife. Followed by a Swiss Champ. I don't like either as knives really. It's just that the rescue folder is sheeple friendly while still useful as a pocket knife. I carry it on day hikes when I'm certain I won't need a knife. The swiss champ is often part of my survival kit which is carried on my person at all times when out in the woods. If I took a tumble or swim and only had my swiss champ as my knife, It would be better than nothing. At least I can cut the legs off of foraged grasshoppers for food :barf: I might even be able to make fuzz sticks with it.
I've also got a Spyderco Native that I carry for hiking so I have something to play with. :D

I really do prefer my fixed blades. If I'm out where I have space and privacy, out comes the fixed blades! But I want a quality folder now. Something like a Spyderco Military fluted titanium, or a Benchmade Rift, or a CRK folder, maybe a Zero Tolerance though I don't like their designs.

I started out almost exclusively interested in folders. I slowly transitioned over to being interested much more in fixed blades. Nowadays I'm back to liking folders. The "coin pocket" slipjoint is something which just has no substitute.

I kind of had the same thing happen in my short few months of knife buying. When I first really started liking knives I thought fixed blades was going to be my thing, and I'd never buy another folder. Then suddenly I went folder crazy and bought up a whole bunch and felt like I was done with fixed blades. Now I'm kind of a mix between the two. I am still leaning more towards favoring folders right now though because I feel like folders can be carried everyday, whereas my fixed blades are only carried/used when I occasionally go camping.

Trying to keep a balance of inventory, but not doing a very good job. More folders than fixed because I feel more comfortable with them as an edc in the city- that's where I'm at primarily.

However, when in nature, different ballgame, different rules- fixed all the way. Pretty selective on choosing fixed blades, don't want to have overlaps in my set. Will most likely add two more, another Fallkniven and try out Mercworx, than I'll be content...for a little while. Folders- I can keep on going, many more yet to try.

Never lost interest either way, it's just a matter of lag time between purchases and I'm always looking at the selection for both categories.

ya i love looking at fix blades but i have the ones i need a big medium and small one.. so i mostly interested and collect folders... until swap rat releases there 11 series

Fixed blades for work, folders for EDC. Folders are more discreet for carry in the town, but fixed blades are easier to clean without the risk of having gunk or water stuck in the pivot.

I have never been interested in fixed blades. I have a couple I thought I would like but they have never been used. I have never needed to baton wood as I just throw the whole piece on a fire. If its too long just slide the excess into the fire when the end has burnt off. I prefer to skin, quarter, and debone game with a folder. I have never not been able to clean a folder with soap and water. I grew up in the outdoors and spend a lot of time there and a folder has always worked fine for me and I always have one. I don't always plan on when I'm going in the woods so I probably wouldn't have a fixed blade with me most of the time even if I did finds them more useful.

Been exclusively interested in folders since I was 10 and can't see that ever changing. I guess it's the magic of a sharp blade popping out of a harmless piece of wood or plastic :D

i'm eyeballing a 3v little carver... and lately i've been shopping fixed blades awfully hard. but i only own folders thus far... i guess i'm making the transition in reverse

I guess a folder would have to be really special for me to like it. The way some of my fixed blades are special. I want a really nice one.

I've gone the other way. Usually only carried folders, but now fixed blades are all I carry now.

I am mostly interested in folders these days although I am always on the hunt for a fixed blade that grabs my attention. I EDC a Vic SAK. that should tell you something.

I went through a fixed blade period, but I found that I seldom used them. I have settled on three users; a Dozier Wilderness knife, Fallniven F1, and an ESEE-4.

Years ago the bulk of my "collection" was mostly fixed blades. Even had a couple of Randalls. They seemed more useful and practical.
Plus that was about the time pocket clips were starting to show up and I hated them (back then most were part of the handle and not removable).

A few years ago when I returned to knives, I had lost most of my interest in fixed blades. Older now and less real use for them, plus they take up a lot of space. :D, so I got more interested in the current state of folders, mostly non-traditional, but the traditional part is growing.

I've gotten over my hatred of pocket clips...they have improved and you can at least remove them now. :D

Same here. In. my preteens all I wanted were fixed blades after a long hiatus from collecting knives I returned and had only eyes for folders. I guess this could be due to the amount of engineering that it takes to make a functional folding knife versus a fixed blade.

I did the reverse; i went from folders to small fixed blades. I used to collect only folders, but then i got a BM 211tk activator and started liking to carry fixed blades but still was primarily into folders. The I got an izula, some folders(including a small sebbie), and a BRKT bravo necker 2 and almost always carried a fixed blade along with my folders. As time went on the fixed blades got more and more use as i began to realize their utility. Then i got a custom bird and trout knife made by kurt allen Swearingen and fell in love with wooden handled convex ground fixed blades and got a BRKT mini fox river. Folders just dont seem to interest me much anymore. I also place more and more emphasis on what i like aesthetically, and the super grippy black G10, that is ever so present in folders, doesnt look very good IMHO. I guess the fact that my sebbie is essentially edc perfection IMHO isnt helping my taste for new folders at all.
