Picked this up on Ebay, a rare jewel...

I couldn't believe it when Jim sent a percentage of the knife I had purchased from him to my local charity. It really made me stop and think...

Not to be maudlin, but I miss his posts and remember him as one of the good guys.

I think you are confusing Jim Matthes of Santee, CA, (the maker of the knife in the picture), with Jim (or James) Mattis of Glendale (Chai Cutlery) who passed away a year or so ago.

I just spoke to Jim Matthes on the phone and he is very much alive.

Good catch. They are indeed 2 different people.
I'm not alone in missing the presence of James Mattis here. His voice of reason would have nipped a lot of nonsense that has happened here in the bud.
