OK, real quick review.
I just got the thing, but can't shut up or go to bed without talking about it.

I bought the black/satin SAR4 from this thread:

I just got it in the mail on the way home from work this morning (had to wait 1.5 hrs for the PO to open. . .)

First impression:
Holy Christ, this thing is heavy!

Second impression:
I seriously misjudged the size of this blade.

OK, dealing with number 1:
I think Jerry lied to us. This can't be made of INFI. It must be made of uranium or something to be this heavy at this size. The thing is a friggin' tank!

Which leads to. . . number 2:
This knife is a LOT bigger than I thought it'd be, especially the handle. I know, I know, it's been posted about just how big it is, but usually when people say those things, it ends up being ok, to a little small. This fills my big gorilla paws.

Before you jump to any conclusions. . .I LIKE IT. A lot. Great size for field work/bushcrafting type stuff. Most knives marketed for such tasks are too small for my hands to be comfortable working for long periods of time with. A nice, hand filling grip like this will wear well.

Like I said, I just got it this morning, so no great outdoors stories yet, but I did use it to cut up some peppers, onions, cheddar and steak for breakfast. I was suprised at how thin it could cut the onions. Damn thing is SHARP. So sharp, in fact, I shaved the side of my thumb off with it. Cool thing is, it's sharp enough it didn't dig in like most knives would, but rather just shaved the first few layers of epidermis off, and didn't draw blood.

The profile and sharpness is a good/bad news thing.

Good news: it's a very sharp convex edge.
Bad news:it's a very sharp convex edge. Now I'm going to have a hard time not buying LEs. As if CGs didn't cost enough. I caught myself browsing the For Sale forums for NMFBMLEs.

My wallet is under my bed somewhere curled in a fetal position, crying and whimpering something about wild gang rape. . .dunno what that's all about.

Have to fish it out later.

I handled the SAR4 for the first time at Blade....and found I had totally misjudged the size/weight as well. Much bigger/heavier than I thought. It's the now the next knife on my list.

Yep. It has the number '4' in the blade length... but it's just under 5" in reality. It's a very versatile size, it can even chop a little. I like mine a lot.

Every time a new batch of SAR8's is announced I am drooling, but I've decided against buying it. Saving up for the upcoming Bushwacker Mistress. Also, much as a collector though I am, and I love the looks of this knife, I don't see a specific purpose for it that isn't already covered by the ones I have.
But if I had unlimited funds, I'd buy it anyway. :D

Yeah, the SAR8 is treading into territory that I got the Mistress for.

Now, when I get the $$, I migth be going for a NMFBMLE, like i mentioned. . .

Naw, screw it, the kukri will be out by then.

LOL, concidering your rather, um, large collection of kukris (is that the correct pluralization of that word?) your review would be a lot of fun to read.

Busse-kin knives do come sharp, at least all the ones I have gotten. I was pretty deeply bitten by the sharp transition from choil to edge and it took a while to stop bleeding. The Waki on the other hand tried to chew off and eat a few of my fingers.

There's several ways to spell kukri.

Kukri.
Kukuri.
Khukuri.

I pick the short one because I got tired of typing Khukuri all the time.

However, I believe, as with most words ending in "i", that the plural is the same as the singular.

I.E. multiple kukri blades would still be called kukri.
But I don't think anyone would actually call you on it. At least not with some of the spellings I see on the internet. ;)

However much I love my FBM LE, it seems it's my SAR-8 LE I reach for now when I head out. Pair it with a GW, BAD, or Culti and you have the perfect (IMO) setup for woods or wilderness.
