and think the G-10 scales on that SAR look very sexy and was wondering if this is unusual or have been altered somehow. I really like the depth and definition of these as compared to what I normally see.

That's just the way the SAR's are cut, from my limited experience. The SAR-3 G10 that I owned was very aggressive.

Mine too. Very sharp peaks and corners. I actually rounded the pommel end of the G10 on mine where it contacted the heel of my palm.

Wow, so why are most of the ones I've seen are like this:

Not the same as the first one I posted?

Is it a user? If so, just sand down the ridges a bit.

Is it a queen? If so, who cares? Leave it alone...

Perhaps Busse toned down the sharp edges after complaints about them on the SAR-3's. When the SAR-3's first came out, what you are seeing as a positive (sharp edges) a lot of people saw as an "unrefined and unfinished" negative.

A lot of people ended up taking the edge off those grips with sandpaper, myself included.

The 3s seem to have the most aggressive texture. At least compared to the 4 & 8 I had.

I sanded down the pommel end of mine (BP).

LOL, ask Skunk sometime about the hole he wore in his side with a black canvas SAR3 at Blade :foot::D

the other 2 pics you posted are sar 4's.they have a much smoother finish on the g-10.only the sar-3 has the sharp raised finish.

My black canvas SAR3 was one of the tail end of the run, and the ridges were still near-painful sharp toward the pommel. To the point that it sat in the drawer for weeks, unused. Finally I broke down and did a little sanding on the most aggressive of the ridges, and now it's one of my favorite EDC's.

+1 Two entirely different knives as you can see in this pic. They are the two bottom knives. SAR 4 on the bottom left, SAR 3 on the bottom right.

Haha, I was going to say that but didn't. Something looked strange at first glance, but I'm at work and couldn't stare at a page full of knives...

Plus, I was going to say - My 3 looks more like the first one. Very ridgy. I think the later ones were a little smoother anyway.

Yea, thanks to all who posted...I got confirmation from the owner of the sar3 in the first pic., the more agg scales came that way from the shop, I just really like the more aggressive cut of those scales as compared to the 4's.
And I'm in the market for a FOUR, so I guess I'll have to live with the smoothness.

Or maybe take a file to 'em...lol
