I picked up a damascus zing today. It looked so much better in person that the pictures I've seen online- a much finer pattern.
So I get it home and use my sharpmaker to even out the grind. I think this is possibly the sharpest edge I've managed to put on a knife. Every thing is great, except.....I got a scratch on the side of the blade. I bought it to be a user (a very pretty user) so I know I shouldn't be too bummed, but isnt the first scratch the worst?
With regular steels, you can get that worn looking surface that I think looks rather nice, but what happens to a damascus pattern if you get lots of tiny scratches on it? What would it look like if I polished it?
