Hey there BF mate’s,

As you know I really like this forum especially for the advise I get. As now I need your advise again! I’m looking for a knife between my most used knifes, in size and performance. These are my BK-7 for anything big and a normal Mora for carving wood and small food preparation. As you know carrying only the Mora is to small and the BK-7 is most of the time overkill and illegal over here.

After some searching I really like the Howling Rat from Swam Rat or Busse. (Btw is this the same company??). Good grip/handle, good for all-round camp stuff, not to big or to small and if really necessary a good survival tool.

But this knife is impossible to get around Europe under 120 Euro/150 USD. What other knife are there around like the Howling Rat? AND available in Europe. Please give me a good advice! Btw I don’t really like the coating on the Ontario-RAT knives.

Take a look at these stores for some store inventory and the terrible prices:

Have you looked at the BK-10 Crewman?

I like the Mora for it's good wood carving qualities and I can easily recommend the BK-10 if wood carving is important to you. It also chops fairly close to the BK-7.

Cheers,

Go to www.knifeworks.com and check out the Bark River knives. The I have the northstar and it is a great knife. I plan to get the settler in the near future. Mike make great knives and the price is right. I second the Ranger knives also. Good luck...

I was going to recommend the Cold Steel Master Hunter, until I saw the asking price on the Dutch website. It's 153 euros!!! - close to three times the U.S. price!

It looks like if you buy a US made knife you are going to pay 2 - 3 times what it is really worth. In that case I think I would stick to an EU brand, like Boker.
The Boker Integrals should be good, although the prices are above your limit.

While living in Germany I found that all knives made outside of the EU were very expensive. This included Fallknivens, since Sweden is not an EU member.

Pietje010 might save money by ordering from the US, depending on how much tax he might have to pay when the knife arrives in Holland. I ordered a Fallkniven A1 from the US while in Germany. When the knife arrived, I received a note from the German post office saying that I owed 25 euros import tax on the knife. While this added a lot to the price of the knife, the total was still substantially less than the prices I saw in knife shops in Frankfurt.

I like the Fallkniven F1 and the Cold Steel Master Hunter (Carbon Steel)
