I am new to this forum. I have never encountered a forum where search was disabled.... and until 2015?!?!?

Are the admins having trouble finding advertisers? Do they really want my noobish questions littering their forum because I cannot search?

Regardless of the answers to the above, can someone please enlighten me as to the norm around here? I don't see how I can be told to search for a topic that has been discussed a bunch of times over, as I cannot search! Are any and all threads shown respect? Or is prior knowledge expected?

Please advise. Thanks.

This forum is pretty huge, and with tons of threads/posts. The amount of resources used for all members to search was creating some problems with the performance of this site, so Spark (the owner) had to make a tough choice and limit the search feature to paying members while working hard to find solutions. Things are running better now since some changes were made & upgrades were done, but he may be waiting to see if the trend towards improvement continues before removing this restriction.

In the meantime he's created this alternative, using Google to search BladeForums... Click the link below, and welcome to BladeForums! :)

Thanks for the quick response! That google search engine you linked me to seems to get better results than just typing my search and "bladeforums" into google... good stuff.

Would you mind shedding some light on new thread etiquette? For instance, I cannot find much info on a Benchmade knife I used to own and is now discontinued. Would starting a thread that asks for opinions on knives Benchmade now offers which are equivalent to the discontinued model bear the wrath of fellow members? Or are posts such as these kosher?

I don't think anyone's gonna get upset for asking something like that. Just keep yourself familiar with the faq's and rules, etc. And, welcome!

Peace,

T

You're very welcome. :)
I think that would be OK. That's why we're all here... To talk knives! :D Try placing your new thread HERE. If a Moderator feels that your thread would be better suited to another sub-forum, they will move it, but since Benchmade doesn't maintain a sub-forum here, I think that the General Knife Discussion sub-Forum (located in the General Knife Discussion main Forum) might be your best bet for the info that you seek.

That's it. General Knife Discussion is ideal for asking about different knife models.

Welcome to Bladeforums! :)
