For hard use these are really the only ones i trust...

Like for Multi-tool i ONLY trust Leatherman
Pocket knives ONLY Swiss Army
Fixed blades ONLY Swamprat, Busse, Scrapyard

Can someone help me get out of this mentality? I want to buy other knives i just don't see a need, i know that sounds weird but could anyone help me?:(

Yet you list the Gerber LMF as your favorite knife....very interesting.

I agree with the Leatherman...very solid tools but there are many knives that are very well made...buy them...try them...

I agree with Leatherman.

For fixed blades, you can't beat bob Dozier and Bark River knives.

For folders, it's hard to beat Spyderco and Benchmade.

Yeah, really you can beat those brands in production knives and certainly in customs.

if those are the knives you like and love nothing wrong with that but you are cheating yourself from owning other Great makers as well....

No big deal, just go with what you trust. As I have used more and more knives and had more experience with them a lot of manufacturers have dropped off of my preferred list. I have totally lost confidence in current production models from makers like Buck, Boker, Case, Gerber, SOG, Cold Steel, Blackjack, CRKT, Remington, Schrade, S&W, Timberline, and others that I used to like.

Don't let people talk you into something that you will not be comfortable with, unless they prove it's value to your satisfaction. I would say if you know some one who has a brand they like and can show you it's merits then try it.

This forum is full of people that are willing to settle for less than acceptable becuase they don't want to pay for better or they don't use a knife enough to know what's better or whatever reason.

When you say "trust" maybe you really mean "prefer"?

After all, why would you "trust" Victorinox more than you would "trust" Case for a slip-joint?
Case slip-joints are certainly made just as well as Vics, and Vic's blade-steel is no better than Case's Tru-Sharp blade-steel.

Maybe you just "prefer" Vic slipjoints?

And why wouldn't you "trust" Swiss Army for a multi-tool?
After all, you "trust" their slipjoints...

Maybe you just "prefer" Leatherman mulit-tools?

Someone over at EDCForums "lost faith" in a Spyderco many years ago... he really wanted to believe again so he went out and bought a new SS D4 and beat the crap out of it... and it did every task he called on it to do. Trust regained. He ended up buying another SS D4 to EDC after that.

Maybe if there's a brand or specific knife you want to trust, you should do tests and see if it lives up to your standard.

Try these:
Multitool: Victorinox Swisstool Spirit
Pocket Knife: Spyderco Paramilitary or a Queen slipjoint. If you've got a couple bucks, get an XM-18 or a Sebbie.
Fixed Blade: Bark River, Fehrman, Ranger, or Himalayan Imports

You've got good taste to start off with, but there is a lot of other good stuff waiting for you too. If you can't trust a big HI CAK, then you can't trust anything.

Swiss army knives for hard use? Perhaps your definition of hard use differs from mine. Joe
