So I sanded the black stuff off my Leatherneck and smeared a bit of French's mustard on it.

I didn't look up how to do it or anything and I heard use mustard and that's what I had... it worked surprisingly fast, literally 4 minutes later I had the results here...

So: what do you think of my forced patina? Is it decent or crappy or what? I have no clue.

IMHO it looks good, if it was mine I'd do it some more and really take it to the next level.

I am planning to, in fact I coated it a second time a bit more thoroughly, but strangely enough after 10 minutes it looked nearly the exact same.

That looks great, much better than I'm capable of with mustard. I use mostly vinegar for my patinas with great success however it's a bit harder to get natural "earthy" looking patterns such as those.

Thanks

It was just the standard yellow mustard

I was actually shocked at how fast it worked... literally only a few minutes.

Looks good.

I tried hot sauce and after an hour it didnt do too much. Then i tried limes and it worked very well. I stabbed the blade through several of them and let it sit, gave it some cool patterns and designs.

I'll have to try mustard next time.

I like it. Parts of it look oily in the light. This mustard seems really acidic, I have some Heinz white vinegar as well and tasted it, it was so bland compared to the French's... in fact you might not want to leave this mustard on too long, I don't know how that would turn out.

I did the same thing to my leatherneck. First off, Im glad we got the SK5's- dont you think? I patina'ed mine with regular vinegar for an hour or so and so mine is darker, without the personality that yours has. I like what you've got on yours better than mine. I'm glad I stripped mine.

Yeah, had to get the SK-5 when I learned they were out of production. Got a good price on mine as well.

nice job.
i forced a patina a while back on a condor eco machete. it comes with in polished 1075 so i taped the bevel, scuffed it up with a scotchbrite pad, then wrapped with white vinegar soaked napkins. scuffed it up again after that then used mustard, mayo, ketchup, and coffee grinds all over. came out brown orange and black but my idea to tape the bevel to keep its polish didn't work so well so that got some pattern too

What kind of slippie are you looking for? I have a few... I may be able to part with one.
I've been gifting a bit lol. I have 40 knives and honestly.. it's just too many.
