I snoozed, I lost

Ever wait too long on a good deal? I picked up a Large Lum with the pink handle on Special from Knifecenter at a ridiculous price in order to do my first dye job. It came out a cool purple color, and I thought a bright red RIT would look pretty snazzy too. Time and money for projects got diverted for a while, and then today I got a heads-up from the Doc that my carefree, meat-eating lifestyle is a thing of the past. To console myself, I thought I would go back and make that red Lum--and they are all out. In hindsight, a price that great on a knife this good was just not going to last. The sting from the brutal facepalm has worn off, so I came here to vent and rail against the self-inflicted evils of procrastination. Hopefully I won't let another great Spydie slip through my fingers like this again.

You snooze, you lose....early bird gets the worm, etc...:D I hate when that happens too. Good stuff goes up for sale when I'm broke and when I have the money in hand, they are all out of stock!

I see they're still in stock at DLT Trading (authorized dealer) for 99.99.

Yeah i hate when i do that to myself. There are a handful i missed out on. Another similar thing that happens is when i get home from work and a knife ive been waiting for sells a few minutes eariler.

Que sera sera. I missed out on a lot of good ones. It seems you got to be glued to the computer and dont procrastinate to get the Sprints.
I pounced on the orange Manix a day after it came out. I'm surprised I got that one ... and it still is in stock.
KC's Pink Lum was on sale for months I got 2 and gave one to my MIL.

BitingSarcasm did you take the handles off your Lum to dye or did you just steep it, with blade sticking out?

I took mine apart to dye it.
Very simple on the Lum Chinese model.
I even added liners to give the handle some extra thickness for larger hands.

I actually was going to take the scales off, but one of the screws was either cross-threaded in there or had a bit of red loctite. I thought about trying one of the tricks to release loctite, but it didn't really make sense that just one screw going into a standoff would get treated. I was already voiding the warranty, so I went ahead and steeped it with the blade sticking out. The color turned out nice, and the only ill effects on the blade are a couple of small spots where the solution got on it and I didn't notice. I think they would polish out, but it's a user and I haven't gotten around to it.
