I spent the whole day in the woods today...

..and covered about ten miles.

An old friend died yesterday (50 years old; complications following a brain tumor operation) and I needed to wander around in the woods and unwind.

I checked my two trail cameras and had a couple of nice photos on one of them. I moved the other one. Instead of the Busse SAR5 or Meaner Street I generally carry in the woods, I brought my Off The Map Outfitters custom bushcrafter made by forum member Brian Andrews. It's a wonderful knife. I recently bought a new stropping system from HandAmerican.com and I gave the OTMO bushcrafter the treatment. Holy cow! Beyond scary sharp!

Anyway, I needed to trim some beech saplings and some striped maple for my camera installation. The thicker beveled and bladed Busses are not really ideal for wood work, but the bushcrafter is designed for it and boy does it do the job! It cut like a laser and after I was done setting up my camera, I played around with it for a while. I really like this knife and will be carrying it a lot in the future.

Great knife and cool pic. Sorry to hear about your friend passing away. The woods is a great place to spend time in.

Sorry to hear about your friend. A day in the woods sounds like a great way to manage the pain that comes from losing someone close. That is also a great looking blade.

Sorry to hear of the loss of your friend , smoke sent.
An outting in the woods definitely helps clear your head a bit.

Sorry to hear about your friend. A day in the woods usually helps with everything.

Thanks for the condolences, everyone. It sure is a thoughtful bunch of folks we have around here.

PS- Brian's knife has one of the most comfortable and functional handles I've ever experienced.

Sorry for you loss.

I like how people say sorry and say sorry,"And oh, I also like that knife."

It really is a cool looking knife, hows the handle? Is it a true scandi or is there a micro bevel? Nice pic of that deer too.

I was happy that was the case. I really had just planned to post about the knife and trailcam, but I thought I'd mention the loss of my friend because it was heavy on my mind... . Sometimes we forget how people in our lives can suddenly be gone. Keep it in mind and treat everyone right, and don't take your health for granted!

See my "PS" above for comments on the handle. :-) The grind is true scandi (unless the microbevel is REALLY micro!).

Well "Desmobob" I certainly know where your head and heart are at. Very Sorry to hear about your friend passing and my sincere condolences. When my mother died who I was very close to it seemed like the only solice I could find was to go hiking in the timber. There is something about walking in the woods that I truly feel puts a man truly closer to GOD himself.

It doesn't surprise me that this survival movement is taking off as it is. People are just simply painted into a corner in this horribly stressful society we live in. Great pics by the way. I love to test the performance of a new knife, ax or machete by taking it out in the timber and really putting them to the test. Hey thanks for sharing that with us. :)
