I have had a Case Yellow Trapper in CV for a little over a year. It was the first of its kind as I didn't really like the pattern until I got one in a trade. It takes a wicked edge and develops a nice patina very easily. I love the knife, it is about the perfect size and weight with the right amount of tension on the backsprings.

I havn't carried it too often because the blades sat considerably lower than the handle when open (especially the spey blade), it is a a flaw that I find annoying. Alot of my other Case knives have this problem but my trapper was the worst, until I decided to fix the problem with my dremel that is.

I carefully ground off a little metal where the blade meets the backspring when open, didn't take very long and was easier than expected. Best part is that it worked liked a charm, both blades now line up with the handle when open. I ground the kick of the clip blade a little so it sits lower in the handle (makes the spey blade easier to open) as well. I also used some metal polish and the felt wheel to polish the bolsters and liners, it sure is spiffy now. I am happy I can carry my Trapper again, it is a great knife. I wish I could post pics. Anybody else like to carry their Case trapper in CV? Does your trapper have the same problem mine did?

What year is your trapper? I had that same problem more often than not on 1970s "dot era" Case knives I've had over the years; that's what put me off Case knives for a long time.

But the Cases I have now (yella trapper in CV, a yella soddie Jr. in CV, and a harvest orange peanut in SS) are all from the past 5-6 years and none have that problem.

BTW, working at a desk all day, I don't carry my trapper much during the week but I do like to carry it when we get out in the woods. My wife calls it my picnic knife because she uses that spey blade to spread stuff on bread for the kids. :D BTW, it takes a wicked edge ..... it's probably is the sharpest knife I have.

Hi,

What's not to like? The Trapper has my two favorite blades, a clip and the spey. Though I prefer the Mini-Trapper size myself. I've really got to get one. And not be distracted by other shiny slippies.:D

I like the tips to be slightly low myself. Particularly the spey. It allows for a more natural hand and wrist position when using the blades. If you think about what a spey blade is designed to do, you really only work on the small, tight curved part. Too straight, and your wrist will get sore after standing there after a couple hours of castrating pigs. Dropping the point a bit allows you to hold your hand in a more natural, ergonomic position. I know this from real life usage. And having the clip point slightly lower gives your fingers a bit of clearance when cutting on a flat surface. Now Case may have gotten a bit carried away on yours, and got them too low. But you were able to easily remedy that problem to your satisfaction. We all tend to use our knives a bit differently.

Forced patina??? Who, me?????

If they started with seven dots, I guess it would be a 1994 model. The two smaller pins in the handle at either end are recessed on mine whereas they are flush on the newer models, just an observation. Honestly didn't know my knife was that old, I assumed it was newer.

Case Yellowhandles are my favorites. Yellow Soddie Jr. CV is my all day, everyday knife. The trapper, medium stockmen, and peanuts get some time to work, but I just love the sodbuster.
Glad you are enjoying the simple and traditional yellow's.

I'm not sure of any thing any more but I believe a 1994 knife would have 6 dots?

Some nice pix here too thanks.

Anybody tried the new CASE Trapperlock single blade locker in yellow and cv, can't find a photo of one yet.

Found this one among the rip-rap in a ditch behind the North Myrtle Beach Sewer Treatment Plant. Nice patina, huh!

Yea that drives me nuts. I have 1 case trapper. They spey blade is about 15 degrees off from the back of the knife. I just don't understand why they put them out to the public when they are like that. I carry the Schrade because of that. Oh well, the Schrade is a dandy and sharper then blazes

What did you do throw a $ 10. down there with it so you would have to pick it up ??

Just Kidding You...

Ha ha ha....ha. I was doing an as-built survey of the treatment plant and, luckily, this was a storm water creek and not... the other. It took a pair of pliers to open it the first time.

When was this trapper made?
