I got a last minute invitation to go fish Quabbin Reservoir today, it is Massachusetts largest body of drinking water. When we got there it was a chilly 29 degrees.
Quabbin is real good for Lake Trout, landlock Salmon, Smallmouth and Largemouth basss, etc...
We saw two Bald Eagles, Loons, Turkey Vultures, tons of odd ducks and other flying things that looked good to eat.
My friend hooked into a huge landlock salmon and then lost it right next to the boat, estimated at 27" and 8 + lbs. It was a Monsta!
About 20 minutes later I caught a 3lb Smallmouth Bass. My first Smallie for the year. I released her after the pictures, she was full of eggs and longer than my DSF
Here are some pics of my day.
Enjoy!

Looks like a great time! Bet the Bald Eagle was thinking ya'll were amateurs when you lost the salmon. :D

Nice pics and beautiful scenery!!!! That smallmouth is a whopper! I'm jealous.......I have not been fishing yet this year. :(

Thank you for the pics of your day afloat. Nice lookin' bass. Really nice to see a Busse with some wear 'n tear on it. I think you've done a great job breakin' in the coating on that DSF. Keep up the good work. :D

I love hiking around Quabbin! I haven't been up that way in a few years, but it is definitely on the to do list this year. Looks like you had a great time out there!

NICE Bass MAX!!! What did you use?

We were trolling Sutton Spoons. They are paper thin and they flutter and flash in the water like real baitfish but they are hammered metal, amazing lures for sure. Pretty sure Sutton is out of business now. Glad we stocked up on them years ago.......Trade ya a few for INFI or that DJ.....LMAO :D
The Salmon, lakers and Smallmouth love them.
We have best luck with the Silver/gold ones. Sizes 71 and 44 are best for Quabbin, although the 61 which is much smaller works good too. All the big fish we have caught over the years are on the bigger #71, big lure = big fish is so true.

You have to get back out there and hike but watch out for the Deer ticks, tons of them around Quabbin, spray down with your favorite flavor of Deet. I hunt on the border of Quabbin and this past Deer season I looked down at my coveralls and I was covered, I mean (Insert bad word here) covered with deer ticks from the micro nymphs to adults.
