I am sitting here in Glen Burnie, MD watching a thunderstorm like I have never seen before. The news just had a watch for violent thunder storms in the area, and I asked myself, how violent can they be? Well holy friggin' crap!!!! There are about 5 seconds between lightining strikes, and the whole damn house is shaking. Well anyway it has been good fun so far. Anyone else in the MD, DC area feeling this storm rght now?

We had quite the display up north here as well. We had close lightning strikes while the sun was shining bright and there was no accompanying rain...that was a first for me. Lots of hits near my house and many blinks of the lights but we're ok. There were three waves of storms over a 90 min. period.

FOR GOD'S SAKE MAN, TURN YOUR COMPUTER OFF! UNPLUG EVERYTHING! UNPLUG PHONES. UNPLUG CABLE TV. UNPLUG, UNPLUG! NOW!

Don't even reply to this message. Just UNPLUG! NOW!

I'm here in Gaithersburg and the suns almost out, but 2 hours ago it was crazy. I'd just finished lifting, fixed up a protein shake and walked out the gym door. It was pretty dark. 5 seconds later all hell broke loose, thunder crashing and hail pounding on the metal overhang I was standing under. Temperature dropped about 20 degrees, but it wasnt a very long storm.
I hear theres supposed to me more tomorrow.

i'm up here in new york and we just had the worst thunder storm i've ever seen. The rain was sideways. lightning was hitting trees all around. Trees were knocked down, some still hanging but barely. 2 cars crushed up the street at my neighbors house. 4 car pile up down the road. Neighbors pool got crushed under a tree. it looks like a tornado passed through

When there are hundreds of thousands of volts of electricity flying through the air around your house, disconnect ANYTHING and EVERYTHING that might tend to bring that electricity inside your house. Unplug everything. Turning off is not enough. Turning off the outlet strip is not enough. Conventional switches aren't designed to block the tens of thousands of volts and a lighting strike can bring. The lightening will jump right over the switch almost as if it's not there. Unplug! Also unplug all telephones, all cable TV, and all outside antenna connections. Surge protectors are not intended to protect against lightening.
