I tend to accumulate smaller knives

Following Pete's lead here, I decided to snap a couple shots of my smaller knives. I prefer knives right around 3" closed.

The first shot is of my six smallest knives closed.

L to R, First row: Craftsman small stockman, Case mini copperhead
Second row: Schrade serpentine jack, Camillus pony jack
Third row: Case peanut, Queen Dan Burke half whittler

The two longest are just 3.125" closed (Case mini copperhead, Queen Dan Burke half whittler), the shortest is 2.75" (Schrade serpentine jack).

The Schrade, Queen, and mini copperhead are single spring knives, the other three have two springs.

The second shot shows them with the main blade opened.

L to R, First row: Camillus pony jack, Queen Dan Burke half whittler
Second row: Case peanut and mini copperhead
Third row: Schrade serpentine jack
Fourth row: Craftsman small stockman

All have pen blades as the secondary. The only three blade knife is the Craftsman small stockman and it adds a sheepsfoot.

The Case mini copperhead and Schrade serpentine jack are the thinnest at just 0.3125" wide. But the others are not much wider, each measuring just 0.375" wide.

Now that stockman month is nearly over, I can get back to selecting from among this variety for daily carry. It will be nice to have multiple options again.

Nice collection Doug, I like your fathers day present how you liking the wharncliffe? That schrade serpentine jack is very nice also, is the quality on par with Craftsman (Schrade) stockman?

Thanks. The two Schrade made knives are comparable in practically every way except the scales. The serpentine is scaled in yellow celluloid, which has shrunk some over the years. The blades are a little harder to open, but it is a solid knife in every useful way, just as the small stockmans we have and enjoy are.

Wharncliffe blades are among my very favorites, my favorite non-traditional knife has a wharncliffe blade (Kershaw Leek). I have not yet had much time with the Queen, but I hope to change that soon!

I like 'em smaller myself, been carrying my new AG Russell Pinched Peanut every day since I got it.

One of my Boy Scouts came up to me last night and asked me what I thought of his knife (the Scouts know I'm a bit of a knife nut since I did the last Totin'Chip training with them). He handed me a Case mini Copperhead with the clip main, sort of a brown bone color handles. Nice knife but it needed sharpening, it has seen some work!

Nice collection of 'little friends', Doug.

Love the blue bone mini copperhead. Looking back, I've always found a smaller blade more useful for daily cutting chores. Even back when I carried my Buck stockman edc, I used the sheepsfoot blade most of the time. Always felt like I had more control with a shorter blade. Not to mention you can take them out almost anywhere to cut something and not get a second look, except maybe a comment on what a nice looking little knife it is.

Carl.

Thanks Carl, that navy blue bone is indeed nice.

That reminds me, it is not my only mini copperhead. I forgot all about the newly acquired deep canyon chestnut. It just arrived this week, and I had not yet put it in with the others because I am pondering the RIT dye treatment to deepen the saturation of the bone.

It's your blue wharncliffe copperhead that catches my eye, every time. It's nice to see it in such fine company, however.

I'll be interested to see what you decide about your new deep canyon's scales, and to what outcome.

Nice collection Doug. The nice thing about the small ones is that there is always room for one more.

Nice collection, I especially like the mini copperhead IMO Case got it right with this pattern now I wish they'd just offer it in CV.

Okay, so here is my latest small knife, a deep canyon chestnut bone mini copperhead.

Yes, I did alter the bone dye a bit, so I like its appearance better now.

Yes, I wish it had CV blades, but I can't alter that part!

Very nice collection Doug. Really like the scales on that half-whittler.
And everytime I see you post the Craftsman, I smile because I know it went to a great home.

You are kind to say so, and I must say you have provided me with one of my favorites!

And, as I'm sure you have seen, it has reaped benefits beyond my enjoyment as Pete saw my pictures and found one just like it with the Schrade branding at the flea market.

After I saw your Crafsman, I was lucky to find almost the same one, I am so impressed with the quality and craftsmanship of the little Schrade it has really raised the bar in what I look for now. No gaps positive snap on all three blades, open and closed the way they fit all three blades in such a tiny space, no blade rub, it's a thing of beauty.
