I think a satin-finished blade on the 0200 would fly off the shelves.

I think that if you took a poll you'd find a lot of interest. The 0200 has the type of design that's so sexy it almost begs for some shine to make it really hit the spot. Offering olive drab G10 would also be a hit, in my opinion.

Any possibility of this being considered for production? Thomas?

Thanks in advance for any response.

It's funny, I just mentioned the exact same thing in another thread yesterday or the day before. Machine satin finish (rather than beadblast) and OD green scales would spur me into buying two or three!!

I would love to see OD green scales!! Satin blade would also be very nice!:thumbup::thumbup: for both ideas!:D

Spiral posted this in the other thread about satin-finished ZT's.
So, what's the deal?

The knife that is currently available for pre-order at Knifeworks has a bead blasted blade, not a machine satin blade (like the Lahar or the TI-ZDP leek).

Most of the people in this thread are lobbying for a Satin Finished OD green scaled ZT0200.

Because it would so totally rock.

Long day, sorry about that. I looked at 3 different threads about 0200's and got mixed up.

Haven't talked about a satin finish. I'll bring it up.
Thanks for responding, Thomas.

The 0200 is the most 'classic' design of the ZT line, in my opinion. I bought one for my dad's b-day, and being in his 70's, he was thrilled to see an absurdly well-built production knife that harkened back to the handsome, no-BS, functional blade designs of the past. Ken Onion truly created magic with the 0200 design, from blade to handle and back.

The thing absolutely SCREAMS for a satin finish (and OD scales). Just an idea, sprint run it, whatever you gotta do, I can't imagine every ZT fan NOT placing a preorder. Including me.

Actually, the black blade is the only thing that has kept me from buying one of these. It's been at the top of my list for a while, since I handled one on a passaround, so a satin blade option would definitely push it into the top position for next knife. It's such a great knife for the money. Almost indistructable.

I agree, I would like a 0200, but have stopped due to not wanting a black blade. I will purchase one with a satin blade, OD or not!

That's really interesting that you would say that - I just had a really similar experience. Tonight, I bought a gift for a very close individual in law enforcement....I gave him the option of about 5 different knives, and without prompting he picked the 200. He loved it.

One positive....I'm having it shipped here, so I get to try it out before I give it away!!

Probably not as a cataloged item, but possibly as a boutique run. Nothing planned as of today though.
Thomas,

The major appeal (IMO) of a satin finish other than how it looks is the fact that black blades tend to not look that great with time, as the finish wears off. On the other hand, satin blades age a little better in terms of appearance with long-term use. Just the opinion of a guy who loves the design of the 0200 but not necessarily black blades.

PS - thanks for even considering a boutique run. Could you post in here if it ever happens? Thanks!

MD, you might just need to clean your blade. The Tungsten DLC is some very tough stuff. After some heavy use on the farm one day, I thought I'd really screwed up the finish on my 0200. I'd been notching locust posts, and kept getting into old wire staples. I went out to the garage, got some carb cleaner and a heavy rag, and the blade finish was 100% again. The marks on the blade were material left from the rusted staples, not scratches as I first thought.

On the other hand, I do love satin finishes and the thought of one on an 0200 sounds great!
