My (BTI) Uncle Henry 885UH was a bit stiff to open.
An few hours making a new file dull, and polishing on a cheap Smith's fine grit pocket diamond hone seems to have "fixed" it. (note quotes.)
I can open the main blade now without having to changing position/grip, and without worry of breaking my thumb nail or ripping it off. (that would hurt!
)
I think the backspring is around .002 - .003 inches thinner between the center pin and tang, than when I started.
Yes. I honed the liners and covers so the spring is flush with the blade open. It lacks being flush by a beard hair (maybe a beard hair and a half) when closed.
I still need to bend the main slightly on the Old Timer 858OT to clear the center liner.
I believe I'll wait until I get a small hammer for that. A couple light raps with blade supported by a "U" lock should do the trick.
Let the cursin', name callin', ridiculing, and gnashing of teeth begin.
At least now I can EDC that knife.
