Just started a new job a few days ago and decided to go to the local knife shop and treat myself. I had broken it down to a fixed blade griptilian, swisschamp and the delica 4. Then it was down to the latter two because a fixed blade cant be carried on your person around here. So i weighed my options and went for the delica 4. I love this knife! It's comfortable, the f&f is great. I got the stainless steel handle version. The VG-10 had a small flatspot in the blade out of the box but it was extremely easy to sharpen out. It's sharp too! My only concern is the handle getting uglied up because it's a nice knife to bring around others who are not knife conscious and i'm wondering how the vg-10 will perform. I switched the clip to tip up which is another dislike for me about other knives but this one it just feels natural on. And i figured id do it before i got used to tip down on it. I like how the tip isnt extremely pointy, i always chip tips. The only thing i dislike about it is you can't adjust the knife or disassemble it! It took me a ton of knives to find the perfect one but it was worth it. I think it'll be a good user. Oh, and it feels good in the pocket too.

I love victorinox stuff and benchmade. Bought a benchmade griptilian for around the same price and disliked it a lot. They had a delica in ZDP-189 but it was combo edge. i was a bit upset lol. They had a low selection of plain edged, since a lot of people down here are working on boats i guess. I liked the swisschamp but i went for blade quality and i didnt feel like carrying a sheath or having my pocket weighed down. My favorite knives have been a kelly worden tactical by timberline, my CRKT m16-03 aluminum, Benchmade ascent and victorinox centurion. This is a needed upgrade. The blade has a tiny bit of bladeplay but i can deal with it. I got the GF a Vic. Alox Classic SD in pink too :-).

I think B+M dealers bring in a selection of serrated and plain edges. IMO the plain edges sell first leaving the serrated behind. I know this happens at my B+M store.

I have been EDC'ing a Delica for over 20 years. Currently I have a ZDP-189 Delica 4 on key chain and a VG-10 Delica 4 does duty in my pocket or back pack.

They are definitely one of the best knife designs of all time.

Perfect knife you say? In six months you'll have another.

I started out with a D4 too. Now have an Orange Millie on the way.

Haha my perfect knife is still perfect, but it didn't stop me from buying more practical or other knives and using them.

Look at the Stretch 2 in FRN or one of the Delica / Endura 4's. :)

Congrats on finding a knife you love.

The stainless Delica does not get enough love. Its hefty and solid, but thin enough to disappear during EDC. Has the feel of a real piece of machinery and not just a piece of plastic in your hand.

There are lots of best knives..they are just best in different conditions (such as mood day of the week etc)

Same here. On my second one, second generation. Never leave the home without it,jeans or shorts. If I loose it ,I'll buy another immediately, even though I have others.

i was just watching a vid on youtube. does anybody find the handle too soft a steel? He said he stripped the screw threads in the handle changing the clip... I have some side to side play and will go check now for up n down.[It has a very tiny amount of up and down play, but so do all my lockbacks]. I think this will be a good user. Not worried about the small imperfections. It's my first and only spyderco, so i dont know what to expect out of it or the company. How hard is it to damage the edge? Accidentally hitting somehting the hardness of a staple or sand or something thats common to cut into/through.

On topic: when I unwrapped the stainless steel Police I thought: I think I found my perfect knife! The feel, the weight, the teeth, the point - wow.

Since that I've had that same thought with

- SS Delica SE
- SS Native PE
- FRN Delica PE
- FRN Endura PE
- FRN Native PE
- FRN Centofante

Right now I'd be hard pressed to name just one "perfect" knife. It would be a draw between Native, Delica, Endura and Centofante.

But who knows, tomorrow might bring along a new brand, a new maker, a new model... The search is never over.

I've never had a "perfect knife" moment with FBs. Maybe it's because FBs for me have equalled tools, puukko being the standard. I'm looking into larger fighters now, so maybe there's something there that fits the bill.
