I think I got my Bucks worth

Just picked up this Buck 301 hafted in jigged bone instead of the high impact plastic. I hadn't seen these before. It's an older Buck with a full flat grind and 2 back spring construction. I'm really happy with the knife. The uninterrupted, jigged surface has a nice feel in the hand. And it's similar in size to my Old Timer 8OT so it's small and light enough for me to carry without wearing suspenders. ;)

The "X" next to the "301" marks it as a 1990.

And it's frickin' gorgeous.
I'm envious. And I don't say that often.

Jake...that is one very very nice knife, I very much like the jigging on the scales...that would have to be a keeper - yes?

Thank you guys.

The Buck stops here. ;) It's a keeper... the Old Timer too.

I was wondering about the age. Thank you.

Here's a shot of the springs. Both the Old Timer and Buck are very nicely constructed and have excellent mechanics. I also got the Old Timer recently -- in a trade from the Exchange subforum. It's been a while since I've had an Old Timer 8OT or an older Buck 301. I'm going to enjoy these knives.

Great looking knife.Love the jigged bone with the slanted bolsters.

That is a nice one. It looks slimmer than a normal 301 but might just be the picture. Enjoy.

Very nice Buck stockman Jake! So, was this a (limited) production model or an aftermarket mod? Either way, I like it!

That is an awesome Buck knife. Very unique and interesting. But am I weird because I like the 8OT more?

I'll 2nd (3rd, 4th) the 'ENVIOUS' comments already posted. I'd still like to see a 'Drooling' smiley added to the editor here. It'd be appropriate.

That knife is beautiful.

Can't see pics, but it seems like I have the same knife as you. 301 with jigged bone scales. One of my favorite carry knives. Saw it at a gun show, and had to have it.

Guys,
The jigging will or will not go all the way to the bolsters. As they were hand finished, operator 'art effect' was in play. As you can see from this spring view, this model was made during Bucks transition from brass lined, two spring construction to all SS three spring (stockman) construction. Which occurred at the beginning of the 1990's. This Brown Bone scale was offered from 1989 - 92. in the models 301,303,309,305 312 and 314. Later on SMKWs contracted a jigged Buck Barlow and a large Trapper (Which were actually made by Camillus).......Once more, more than you wanted to know..... 300Bucks

Here is example of the Bone 312 and 314 Trappers. Circa 1991 - 99.

Great knife, Jake.. I had one of these exact same Stockman patterns as well up until several months back. I gave her away to a good and worthy member here on the forums that has put her to good use for their outdoor chores.

Best,
Anthony
