I went to the C & E Gun Show in Hickory,NC this morning with $100.00 dollars and five relatively low-end NIB knives for trade bait. The low-end knives were a Buck Lightning CE w/pewter scales, Buck Lightning CE w/Flying Duck scales, a Gerber Gator Mate CE, a CRKT Mirage CE and a Fred Carter FC4-B PE. These had all been purchased at good prices on eBay or at flea markets (the Mirage was free)to be used as trade bait at some point. I came home with a Spyderco Peter Herbst PE, a Spyderco Meerkat PE, a Spyderco Rookie PE and a Kershaw Leek PE. All were NIB.I think that I did pretty well. I am a little curious to see how other forumites think I did.

OK, I'm a little concerned. I haven't gotten any response although fifty something people have looked at this thread. Is the silence because no one has the heart to tell me that I got taken? :(

Ok, I will tell you that you didn't do to bad. :D Really, I think you came out ok, you ended up with some nice knives!

The "trade bait" knives and $ 5.00 went for the Peter Herbst and the Meerkat. $ 85.00 went for the Leek and the Rookie. The other $10.00 went for the $6.00 entrance fee and $4.00 for soda and crackers.

Sounds good to me.

How do you like the Spyderco Meerkat PE?

I just bought one. I don't have it yet. I should have it in a couple of day's :)

I love it. I had the benefit of already owning the Navigator on who's frame the Meerkat is based. Therefore, I new that the ergonomics would be excellent. It is a great knife for office/coat and tie days.

trane_fan, how's the Herbst? I wonder how well it's made.

Looks like you had a very productive day, IMO, trane fan. One can never have enough Spydies...:D

IMO the Herbst appears to be a very well made knife. The blade, which locks up tightly, is uniform and razor sharp with no pits or other deviations that I have seen. The scales and other components of the handle were not only designed well but also manufactured to a high level of quality. The finish on the entire knife is up to Spydie standards. I'm very pleased with it as you can probably guess.:)

trane_fan,
the number of times your post has been viewed is never going to reflect the number of people that post.sometimes you will see posts that have been viewed 200 times, with no posts. dont worry about it.

as far as the trades,i think you did pretty good. do you? because thats all that matters. if your happy with your trades, then you did good.

It sounds like you did well. Keep in mind that part of the "value" is the fun you had doing the trades.;)
