I think I have OCS Obssesive Compulsive Sharpening

Since reviving my dad's old Loray I have found myself sharpening my EDC Izula every time I use it, or at the end of the day working in the field. If I'm carrying it I get this weird satisfaction that when called upon I know it will be as sharp as I can make it.

I'm not a hard use kind of guy so the touch ups are really just that. I'm sure I'm wearing the knife down faster than normal but I can't stop! :o

Does anyone else suffer from this condition?

Yeah, but I'm a lot more far gone than you are. I won't be happy unless I strop my knife at least 5 strokes per side just for cutting up a piece of cardboard.

Needless to say, my edges don't ever really get "dull". Matter of fact, I often find myself questioning why I'm trying so hard to get my knife sharp, telling myself, "You're just splitting hairs," and then I have to laugh because that's literally what I'll be dong at that moment. "Hmm, this edge was whittling hair free-standing, now it will only carve into it pressed up against my skin. This knife is dull!"

I'm a sick man.

Isn't that why we are ALL here?

While I don't go to a stone all the often, I have strops placed all around the house, next to every place I normally sit (except the bathroom,) and will strop a knife when ever my hands are free.

My wife tells me I remind her of the guy we used to see in all the W.W.II movies, sitting silently off to the side, stropping a Sykes-Fairbairn across some leather wrapped around his fist...

Probably only last you 40 years instead of 50...

Not to mention we all have enough knives to last a 100 life times. :D People talk about how S30V cuts long after the initial crazy sharp edge is gone. I've never experienced it. Well, maybe for a day or two.

Looks like your so not alone . But I've thought this for years about many here . DM

it's a disorder, but one I like :D
Yeah, stropping is about a daily thing for me and I find myself searching for knives in my collection that don't have a sharp enough edge so I can 'tune' them...
I have too many sharpening tools already, and now I'm hunting for a spyderco UF benchstone... it's cra-zy!!!
