I think I know what EH3 means...

Hello all,
This is my first post, and I am not sure if I am out of line by trying to discover who the EH3 unit is whose name is going to be on my new blade. I did a bit o' research and found that the tail sign for the HMM-264 "Black Knights" marine squadron is EH, and I think the "EH3" on the limited over-run of mini mojos is their third division.

Here is the website for the squadron, but I haven't been able to find much about the 3rd grouping, or even if it exists.

http://www.usmc.mil/26thmeu/MSE Webs/HMM_264_WEB/ACE.htm

If I am wrong, I hope someone will correct me. I would really like to know the back-story behind the "EH3" on my Mini Mojo.

BigMac,
Welcome to the Swamp Rat Forum, I'm glad that you stopped by and I hope you stick around and join in our discussions.

:D:D

Welcome to Bladeforums and the Swamp!

You can guess all you want, and you may be right, but I highly doubt that you would ever get an official answer. Jerry and Jennifer are VERY tight-lipped about their military business, and it was unusual for the unit logo to stay on the blade in that offering. We are just happy that they occasionally make some knives for us citizens! :D

I don't think that's the unit either, although I don't know what the unit or operation represented is. My theory is that, since there was a big enough overrun that several knives (in multiple color schemes) were made public, the unit or op was large enough that eventually somebody who was involved will let us know. I also believe that the logo is a gavel, although I tried to find some sort of reference in operation "Iron Hammer", but didn't. I thought about MP units, but also wasn't able to come up with a connection. I've combed through lists of (public) Operation names from Iraq and Afghanistan -- no luck. I have resigned myself to a waiting game, but am fairly sure that the secret won't last forever.

My guess:
They were made for a JAG unit!

What's scarier than a lawyer? A lawyer with a good knife!

I'm kicking myself for not picking one of those up at Blade. Stupid, stupid, stupid. They're very nice knives- I think it was the little bit of recurve that kept me from buying one. What a maroon.

Yep, bad move, for sure. ;)

yeah I have been eye'n one on that no-name auction site as we speak...man that is a great looking knife...out my $ range for now....

I spent most of my time in the Marine Corp with helicopter units including HMM-268 The Red Dragons. The only true divisions in the squadrons is divided into different shops ie S-1, S-2, S-3, S-4, phase crew, flightline, survival shop, etc... Dividing the aircraft into set divisions never occured to my recolletion. The reason for this is that a flight could consist of anything from 1 to 12 aircraft depending on the mission and just about every mission was different. Sometimes an aircraft would have to be swapped out right before the msiion due to mechanical issues. While you did some great homework finding the tail number prefix I seriously doubt it is connected to the HMM-264. (Of course I could be wrong.) Sorry to burst your bubble.
