I think I messed up my BK11, it won't hold an edge.

When I tried to add jimping to my messed up the finish. So I cleaning up the finish and got this satin look, but I lost the san mai look. So I dropped it in some vinegar to bring the contrast back out. Then I put a nice razor edge back on it and but it back in it's sheath. A couple hours later I go to use it and that edge is gone. So I resharpen it and the same thing happens. It looses it's shaving level of sharpness just by setting in the sheath.

Could I have messed up the metal with the vinegar soak?

things you probably already know but here goes. maybe the honing technique has left a wire edge that roles off in the sheath. maybe the sheath has shrunken and is rubbing the edge a little to hard when the knife is inserted/extracted. unless the knife is left for hours and hours in the vinegar solution that shouldn't have caused a problem.

The sheath is Kydex, no wire edge I use paper wheels and a leather strop, it was left in overnight.

flashpoint. i dont think the vinegar did anything to the steel. if you are using the paper wheels, you have to be doing something wrong. pm me your phone number and i'll give you a call. last week i had a member who was having problems sharpening his knife and wanted to send me the knife for sharpening. after talking to him for a few minutes i told him what to do and he finally sharpened his knife.
