Here goes a question to all you Rats out there. What can you tell me about the Bog Dog? It looks like it would be an excellent hunting blade. How many that have 'em actually have used 'em. Any likes or dislikes? Perfomance on wild game? Ease of resharpening? If you've used it in the field, please sound off. That leads me to my next question........Can anyone point me to where I may obtain one of these discontinued blades? I've not yet seen one on e-Bay either. Were they a limited production? Are they that good that no one lets theirs go? Thanks ahead of time for your help! :D

good luck with that one! i don't have one and haven't handled one, but they do look like a hell of a blade.

and i think you may be on to something, i have seen maybe one for sale on the secondary market. i don't think folks want to get rid of them.

Oh yea, they are that good.
Its actually my favorite small blade. I have the SR101 version, not the D2 version. The SR101 is supposedly easier to sharpen. Its a great knife with a great feel, The mudder handles are perfect. I have used it to skin squirrels and it did alright, however I prefer a pocket knife for that chore. I imagine it would skin/gut deer very well and it would be perfect for slicing the meet and preping it for the freezer. I guy named BigBlade over at the swamp forums uses his to clean bluegill with great success. I have also used mine for fleshing squirrel hides and it works well for that. They clean up easy with no fuss.
Good luck in your persuit to find one-

I remember seeing one of the SR101 BDs on Ebay that went for $160 or so. I lucked onto a D2 Bog Dog a few months ago and have no plans to sell... as 1022 said, they are that good.

Place a WTB on the forums, keep it active, and you may get lucky. Also, I think SRKW has sold some of the SR101 BDs at shows in the last few months. You might want to check with Eric on show availability and maybe head to one or get a buddy who is attending to pick one up.

Good luck!

I like mine, it's just been my camp knife since i got it a few years ago. Wouldn't know about ease of sharpening D2 because it hasn't needed sharpening since i got it. It's mostly used as a kitchen knife and i just clean it and store it again in my camp box. It's sharp and easy to clean. Very nice knife, i'd buy a SR101 version if i ever came across one.

D2 and SR101. They are very nice.

If you get the chance, do not hesitate.

"custom1022: Or better yet the Dog Skinner, Its basically the BD with Micarta scales. "

I don't know if I agree about "better yet." My Dog Skinner is one of my favorite blades and the blade size/shape is virtually identical to my Bog Dog. There is something to be said for the incredible comfort of BD mudder grips, though. They are, in a word, outstanding.

The Res-c vs. micarta preference is definitely an opinion-only based argument; there is no right answer. But, for me, I think the Bog Dog is probably more versatile as an actual user blade just due to the grip.

As they say, your mileage may vary! :D
