I think I'm cured of the Knife "bug"

Granted I dont think I had the bug really bad, nor did I spend that much time posting on this forum. However I thank all of you in you passive efforts in helping me to find the perfect knife for me.

Since I got the "bug" a couple of months ago, I have ony bought about ten or so knives...even though, I think I have stumbled upon the one knife (or group of knives) that has ended my search for a perfect pocket folder.

After buying both the SERE 2000 and the CRKT M-16 I no longer have the desire to look for or purchase another knife. Of all my knives, those two seem to satisfy my urge for a good folder.

The SERE has been in my pocket non-stop since I got it a couple of weeks ago, and it really does seem to be a perfect general well rounded knife. It satisfies my urges for: general utility, self defense, discreet carry, pleasing aesthetics and no-nonsense heft and design. The M-16 simply fills my desire for a knife that is both intimidating and fun to fiddle with

I would like to again thank Mikemck for selling me the SERE...a dandy of a knife for a dandy of a price.

So I bid to you forumites a tentative farewell...until the bug bites again.

Thanks again
I remain,

Temporarily cured.

You can always help another formite(?) find the knife they are looking for. Don't quit hanging out at here just cause you are cured.

I'm sorry it's not going to be that easy. Once your in your in for good. There is only one way to leave this group.

Since I am feeling nice today I will tell you what you need to do. First send all your knives to us. Then and you must do this or you can never leave are group. Anytime you come across a knife that you have the urge to get, you must send that to us forum members as well.

So far I have never seen this actually happen, so I am sorry but it looks like you won't be leaving us.

there is no "cure"...

What? No fixed blades? (What if you have to whack a branch or hack some rope while camping?)

No little gents folders for when you are dressed up? (You gotta have something in your pocket to play with at weddings and funerals etc!)

No customs? (You can't just stare at the TV while you're playing with your M-16.)

Nothing to look forward to in the mail!?!

Good luck!

Arin, I doubt if you are over the bug if you like knives. I am 63 yrs old and have been using and sharpening knives since I was a small boy being raised on a ranch/farm enviroment, and I still like to try different knives just to see what kind of edge I can get and how they will hold up to usage. Hang in there and have fun.

Well...I have to stress the fact that I signed off of my post with: "Temporarily cured"

Im sure Ill be back... But the paintball bug has bitten again, and that is one bug that I have never been able to grow an immunity to. So for the time being, my money and my time will probably be wrapped up in playing some paintball.

You guys keep talking about "sickness" and " cure"...

I don't know what you're talking about...

I'm not sick...

Dear Arinvolvo,
Medical science had thought they eliminated tuberculosis, staved off hoof-and-mouth and considers a 'cure' for a common cold impossible.
T.B. is rampant, again. Ditto hoof-and-mouth. And chicken noodle soup is still a welcomed staple, cold or no cold.
Take two Daltons and call me in the Forum...

Dear Arinvolvo,

You have my deepest sympathies. I'll pray for a relapse.

He's not cured ! Simply, because he "thinks" that he's cured.....

To be cured.....you have to "know" that you're cured ! !

You may be cured for now, but you'll get the itch again. Been there done that, got the t-shirt, and the knives! RKBA!

I thought I was cured too. Maybe when Max arrives......

The SERE has been my constant companion for the past few months as well. Yesterday I got the itch for improvements though and got out the Dremel and the files. I wanted a pair of SAK tweezers in the handle of my SERE because I find I 'm in frequent need of them during the course of the working day. Since I don't care for SAKs particularly but still have the need for tweezers I decided why not combine my favorite folder with a secret tweezer stash.

After removing the clip and handle slab I used a flat end mill to grind a half moon indent in the butt end of the slab, right next to where the clip attaches. (It was necessary to reduce the thickness of the handle slab in order to access the tweezers) Then I Dremeled and filed a groove at a diagonal in the underside of the slab so that the tweezers slide in next to the frame. I had to aim diagonally to avoid the screw that holds the G10 to the frame. It looks cool as hell and is going to be very useful to boot. It was pretty easy to do and I may think about doing this same modification in future utility folders.
