A buddy of mine at work let me borrow his Work Sharp Knife and Tool sharpener for the day. I have strayed away from knives for a long time until my Becker addiction took hold because I couldn't get the knack for hand sharpening my blades and couldn't free hand sand them either. But after running my entire collection of Beckers through this system I will always be confident in keeping a sharp edge on my blades (once I get one of my own). Curious as to which of you all love this system too.

Also here's a pic my girlfriend shot of me sharpening the BK14 I bought her to keep in her car. You can see my happiness oozing from every pore.

Also Freya the BK7 has never been sharper and the rest of my Beckers are super stoked and razor sharp too

Looks like a nice little sharpening system. I previously looked into them and I was turned off by reviews that said the sharpener would dull the tip of a knife if used repeatedly. It could be this was just due to user error, but I'm curious if you have any insight on this.
It could also be that this just happens on long, super pointy tips.

It happens when you keep putting pressure on it as you draw the tip across the belt - the belt is "slack" so it twists with the blade, convexing the tip. As you use it, you learn how to angle the knife to relieve pressure, or remove entirely before the twisting begins.

I love mine and am on my second. When this one goes (I do WAY too much handle grinding with them because I don't have space for a HF 1x30) I'll probably pick up the Ken Onion version.

I'm thinking once I buy one it will be the Ken Onion as well. I love the convex edge it put on my knives. For someone like me who needs idiot proof sharpening I can't go wrong with this thing. Sad I had to return it to its owner last night. I was really giddy like Ron Swanson in Food and Stuff during a half off meat sale when using it.

And I should add - the WSKTS has made me a much better freehand sharpener. It goes so much quicker that you can see the effect of changing angles and uneven edge placement (reason for starting with the guides and cheap knives,) and it works so fast and well that I have the confidence to hand-sharpen knowing that I can fall back on the WorkSharp if I honk up an edge. My hand has gotten much more steady. So now I do my Japanese knives on stones in 20 minutes, instead of the hour or 2 I used to spend to maybe or maybe not get better results than before I started.

I also learned something today - just had to look up "nemopholist" - Thanks!

You're welcome. When I first learned the word it was like I had found the perfect way to describe myself and how I feel about nature.

I hope that I can become better at free hand sharpening as well. I have the Worksharp Guided Field Sharpener and it's helped a little. Still not the results I got like using the power model but I could probably use a stone better now after using the small hand guided sharpener by Worksharp. I can't sing enough praises for the line of sharpening tools.

Very happy new owner of the Ken Onion WS. As with anything it takes a little practice but is far better than any manual I've tried (Gatco, sand paper strops, stones). I could not master the other techniques and would get frustrated so I bought this. Lots of good reviews on ths forum of both WS and KOWS so I won't go into that.

I did think I was getting good results with stones and guided sharpener GATCO but after first knife sharpened on KOWS I realized I was not. I do finish on homemade leather strops with Black to Green to Bare leather for the final lethal edge:D

Any questions I'll be happy to answer (with a noob's perspective).

Took mini Nemophilist out to the park today and tested Freya on a log. Man, she's never bitten into wood so well since I've owned her.

Ordered mine on-line for $139. Not sure if any dealers on this forum sell it. Also can be found in the big hunting stores around the US.
