sword... and that's about all I know, unfortunately, as I've just never dealt with these. I inherited this from my dad. It's stamped Weyersberg & Co. Solingen. It's also engraved "In Treue fest" (I think). Is this info and the photo enough to identify this sword? I appreciate the help.

Bavaria infantry model 1855 but there were an evolution of this hilt. Austria had a very similar pattern labeled their 1861. IIRC, there were something like three or four types similar just for Bavaria by the 1860s. Both countries/states used them into the 20th century. Austria and Bavaria were buddies.

horseclover..you are friggin GOOD at this, man. And Southern Comfort..wow, you guys have this stuff down cold. Pretty frikkin impressive, at least i'm impressed.... lol. I thought I knew this stuff, . until i came here. No joke. You guys, and a few others in here, are World Class. I freely admit, I am a layman, now that I know where to go to get somebody who knows wtf he/she is talking about.. :D
 
I am often wrong but this time I may be right. Call it overexposure for the past decade or so, Thanks for the kudos but I am as a babe in the woods when it comes to old swords.
