I Think These Go Well Together

I was at a friend's shop one day and noticed his box of antler pieces that he uses for knife handles. I saw a couple of smaller ones and made a trade for some larger ones I had, and used one of the small crowns to make a custom ferro rod. That rod has laid around in a box for years because it doesn't seem to fit right with most of my knives with synthetic handles. Well, I think I have finally found the right knife to pair it with :)

Very nice! I'd rather have an antler ferro rod over any other material. Just feels more rustic and authentic. I have one that has a little curve to it that makes it as ergonomic as one of Andy's knives! Beautiful set up Mist!

Nice! I've tried some with antler, but the only source I could find was things sold for my dog to chew on. My daughter always seemed to find them before I could make a fire-steel and well, it went to the dog. (BTW, he loved them)

Thank you! Aesthetically and sentimentally I much prefer organic materials. But I have learned through much trial and error that for my experiments and skills instruction work shops here in a temperate rain forest I am much better off with synthetic materials for those uses. I have those knives pretty well sorted now, so lately I have been looking at the wooden handled knives that have long been grails but best left out of my life for the time being. My Woodsman is tapered 5/32 with a Blackwood handle and it shows some of the long term affects of wandering in the rain.

I like digging through the stashes and friend's shops. Usually I am interested in the small pieces they will never use. I have another made from a tine tip and it's not bad, but I much prefer the aesthetics of the antler crown as a handle

That looks great. What kind of sheath is that? Do you carry anything special in there?

The sheath is a Jou Fuu Scoutpouch sheath. I picked up a couple of them in one of Bud's Tuesday sheath offerings and love them. I plan to pick up a couple more. This one is actually made for a hiking Buddy and the handle sticks out farther than it would on one of Bud's Kephart sheaths, but as luck woould have it, it snaps right in nice and secure so I am good with it :) The pouch just has a Fallkniven DC-4 sharpening stone in it. I am hoping I can talk Bud into making a puch on one of the others twice as thick with a divider so I can have the stone in one slot and kit in another. But I'll have to wait and see.

Yes sir. I'd say that just sets that combo off. Very nice Brian.

Preston

Thanks Preston. Yeah I was just looking at in one day thinking which ferro rod to pair with it, then it dawned on me that these two might go well together. I really like how they complement each other.

Very Nice combo Brian

Thank you Abe, I thinks so.

 Great combo!

Thanks Gus! :)

Ohhh, great idea on the kit mod Brian. I was thinking about sliding a couple of ranger bands over the fallkniven pouch to slide a fenix flashlight down the side opposite the ferro rod loop.

Quit rubbing that curly Keppy in my face! :D

I really like the firesteel but my dogs would pilfer that for chew time in about two seconds.

LOL! Yeah, I had a lab once that would use the whole damned thing as a chew toy given the chance. I quickly learned to keep my important stuff up high! :)
