I first thought oh, this thing is no good for my hand. It's harsh. Wait, wasn't it designed for a gloved hand? Hmmm. Ok. Placed a Mechnanix glove on &...O...M...G, it's a totally different machine. Next day, w/ a different outlook, I took this beast out & just started cutting some saplings for a fire. This thing just ran & ran w/ no complaints. Now, my question is...have you ever had a knife you despised until you put it to the test?

Nice to hear a comment on enjoying one and not always looking for the perfect one. More often than not that’s the case, we forget to enjoy the ones we have for looking for a non existing perfect one.

It didn't feel good in your hands until you put gloves on, which tend to make any knife (especially one with ample jimping) work better in hand. I'm not terribly sure that reads as a ringing endorsement. Why not just get a knife that feels good in your hands without using gloves?

Why ask why?
Why does anyone ask a question?

You're asking if anyone's ever had their opinion of a knife change after using it. To me, wearing gloves makes any knife feel better, and pretty much any rugged knife will cut saplings without issues. So I'm confused as to why a task that most any modern folder would accomplish suddenly changed your mind about the XM, and asking a clarifying question.

Referencing the ol' Bud Light commercial. You know, "Why ask why? Try Bud Dry"? Nevermind. ;)

Lemme check...yup that question was posted in the initial thread. Somewhere above the pic.

Even rubber gloves? Fascinating.

Really? Ya don't say?

Cuz maybe the XM isn't just any modern folder? Boo-Yah! Ziiing!:p:thumbsup:

I kid, i kid...I make jokes. See? ;) I'll see myself out.

Are you going to carry the work gloves around in order to use the knife?
Well I do keep three pairs in me spaceship, but nah. I cut the saplings w/ me bare hands so there's that. The hands hadn't seen heavy duty use in a long while & the slight harshness of the MX18 (compared to other smoooove handles) was something I was considering a not so good thing. After the saplings, I appreciated the grip the extra jimping afforded me. I just got to toughen up these smoooove bay-bay hands. :p

Well okay then.

I can't remember owning a knife that i despised but hadn't used. Sort of an odd question.

True. True.

Ever buy one, hold it, deploy it & say "nope". I've done that, alot.
Sure, but to me that is not despise. I call that just not liking a knife. May want to look up despise. It's a fairly strong term.

I have knives that are uncomfortable to use for long periods without gloves, but I knew that going in. Got one in my pocket today.

That sort of parallels the relationship of thick/thin handles.

A thick contoured handle feels terrible in the pocket. Particularly for someone like me who carries in their back pocket. You end up sitting on a brick.

As such, I generally prefer a nice slim handle for EDC. In general use, like opening boxes, mail, etc., they're comfortable enough in hand.

When it comes to a lot of carving, wood processing, large amounts of thick cardboard and so forth a thicker handle is really necessary. They're uncomfortable in the pocket, but make a huge difference in hand fatigue.

I don't often do that sort of cutting so I don't carry a thick handled knife, but I do keep a Recon 1 and a Mora in my tool kit.

Did you see the photo? Did you notice the two bottles? 6 to 7 glasses were poured on the rocks. My in-brain grammar police took a nap afterwards.

Edit: Of course, looking back on this...it might be the reason I felt no pain.

craytab craytab I had a Contego once. It was good, just a bit too big at the time. I EDC'd a Adamas for over a year. Man, that thing took up some pocket real estate.
