So I had my heart all set on a GEC #47 in green micarta which I had been waiting on, but then I saw a #48 in African Blackwood and I had to have it. I had seen the #48 in other handle materials before but for some reason the Blackwood just set it off perfectly. I just started getting into the traditional folders but it seems like for each pattern there is a certain blade style or handle material that is just perfect.

I agree with you, the #48 in blackwood with the cloud shield is a looker. I think you made the right decision.

The #48 I went with is the Improved Trapper with the houndstooth shield and clip/wharncliffe blades.

I love my 48 in Cocobolo - calif clip n spey - the traditional blade configuration for a Trapper. It's a very sleek and graceful pattern that feels great in hand.

Guys, I am disappointed! All this talk and no pictures? I myself am on the fence about one of Mike's in African Blackwood.

Get one!

Here is a few pics of the CK SFO I had on file. Sorry they are duplicates and not new.

I have never owned the 47 but I love the 48, especially in ab.
