I thought small towns were supposed to be safer.

A guy who worked here for a short while was found dead the other night.

Trouble can be found anywhere, and it doesn't make an appointment.

Either you're prepared for it, or you're not.

Yes, sadly it is a density thing. In a little Oregon town with a population of a few thousand the police might call one murder a crime wave .....In LA or NYC, it would be called a slow night.

They used to be... :( I'm sorry to hear that Mark.

Three murders in a town that small in a month is definitely way off kilter.

In the video they mention he had gotten a job, was that in reference to him working at It's A Burl?

That neck tattoo would indicate to me he's had a pretty tough life...

***edited to add*** it crossed my mind that the last sentence of my post might seem all judgy to some, but I didn't mean it that way. While I don't have any ink, my wife has some... but when you meet someone with a big demon/devil inked on their neck, they've usually had some hard times behind them. No matter, it's sad to hear of such a young guy's life being taken from him... especially when friends say he was struggling to better himself.

Do you know your neighborhood ? Homes for welfare people [yes they can destroy it] Sex offenders near schools ? Drug addicts ? People with a history of crime especially violence ?
Conversation I overheard recently. Woman -What's going to happen with my neighbor ? Cop- Well he's in jail now , a heroin addict ,probably will be there a while. Woman - What happens when he gets out ? Cop - no response !!! This in a rural area.

As usual the tv news was wrong.
They said he was clean and sober and had a job. I never saw him sober. It was a few months ago that he worked here for a very short time.
He was getting drunk at work and scaring the customers and employees.
There are a lot of homeless people around here and he hung out with them pan handling and getting drunk.
The scary tattoos was a good indication of what he was like. But....there are people around here that are even scarier.
Not sure if this is the case here but the last couple years I am seeing the meth zombies all over the place in the small towns.

Lately I have started wearing a fighter on my belt as a deterrent.
I don't ever want to use it. Just hoping someone will see it and decide to go mess with someone else.

I worked in forensics for 15 years. The media rarely gets 30% of the facts straight in their reports. When I would meet clients at the probation officer's office, I would look at the map of where the sex offenders and violent offenders were, and they are EVERYWHERE.

Nick, I understand the tattoo culture. Tattoos are accepted in most circles now, but neck, head, and face tattoos are usually associated with criminal or drug affiliations, as are knuckle tattoos.

My advice: don't invite them into your home, and you will usually be fine. Most criminals are creatures of opportunity. Don't give them the opportunity. Random violence is rare. 99.9% of the time assaults and murder are relationship based.

People are people, wherever they are. For better or worse. A guy who was in my class at one point but didn't graduate with us is serving a life sentence for murder. Beat a retired preacher to death when he came home and found that guy and a buddy robbing his house. They got DNA evidence on my former classmate because he spit on the body.

They were robbing the house to get money for meth. My hometown is about 4500 people.
