that is, a crkt m16-03
as I was pulling the top of the handle off, a little rubber ring fell to the table. I have no idea where this goes? My guess is on the outside of the handle between the pivot screw and the handle? Heh. This seems to work, but the knife has a very very slight left to right wiggle that it didn't used to have making me think this isn't the correct location.

any help would be appreciated:D

well, it is the right location, directly under the pivot screw.

Maybe the wobble is because something like a dust or sand particle is screwing it up? You could also try and tighten it real hard, then open the blade a few times two handed, you'll notice the rubber ring settles and the action will get weaker. after like 20 openings, loosen the pivot bit by bit till it's up to your prefence.

I do appreciate CRKT's M-16, great knife and easy to disassemble.

greetz and take care, Bart.

ok thats good to know. the wobble is so slight it almost isn't worth mentioning.. its just that before i disassembled it it was completely rock solid. ill try settling the ring and see if that helps.

thanks a bunch.

[edit] I say wobble, but really i can't even see it moving.. if i grip the tip and wiggle it back and forth i can feel it move a very little-bitty bit, but I can't actually see much of anything happening, just feel it. I'm prolly just being anal:)

well it still wiggles a bit but I think I can live with it... When I was taking it apart and cleaning it, I managed to wipe away most of the oil on the thing, so I took this little oil can I found in the garage and put a drop on the pivot.. the lube it comes with is kind of gritty and extremely thick.. the stuff I put on almost reminded me of extra thick olive oil. The movement is so smooth now... and I thought it was smooth before! sheesh.

Try this one if you want *S*M*O*O*T*H* :
Polish the blade in the pivot area to a mirror polish, degrease the whole thing and clean off all oil and other stuff.
Now, when assembling, use pure car-grease, just a bit on every moving part (both sides of the washers, pivot pin and blade). Do no use much, pressure you'll be putting on later will only squeeze it out.

Tighten pivot as I mentioned above.... Smooth eh?

greetz and take care, bart.

I just got finished cleaning up my mess, but next time I clean I'll definitely give that a try.

Another way to take up the slop is upon reassembly leave the scale screws slightly loose then adjust the pivot screw, afterwards tighten down the scale screws at the rear.

One other thing that happens with this knife the o-ring actually holds the tension setting on the pivot screw, without have to use Loctite.

If your handy and have access to some shop equip., shorten the pivot screw assy. and use removable thread lock to set the pivot screw.
