I Tried Something New

I built this prototype a little while ago, but only now got around to doing a proper photoshoot for it. The idea is to have a knife with a floating, detachable blade. It's not really intended to be a super functional knife. My other builds are pretty utilitarian, so this is a nice departure for me. If I did many more of these they'd have steel blades, but using titanium made it much easier to get a prototype together (I don't HT in house). Being a prototype, I also slacked on making a sheath. Let me know what you guys think!

Some specs:
6" OAL
2.5" blade
.060" titanium blade and frames
Ground to 0.005" at the edge
Held together with precision steel pivots
Purple G10 menukis
Black paracord wrap

Is the blade meant to be changed? Like adding a drop point or Tanto to the frame?

It's different and I like it. Having different blade styles and steels would be interesting.

I don't think I've ever seen anything like it. 7 inches at 4" handle and 3" blade would be my preference though.

Nice and thanks for sharing.

It's like a space-age utility knife!

OK, Not being Rude, Just not getting the intent & purpose other than having a removal able blade?

And the point is to have?

Rhino Knives, this sort of build will never be the most functional knife, so the visual appeal of a floating blade adds a lot of value. And the tasks this knife is very functional for (boxcutter work) aren't ones that make the floating aspect a liability. They'd be interchangeable either way.

And thanks everybody!

Have you thought about carbidizing the edge ?

Might look even more slick and stream lined without the cord wrap.

cool application though

Yeah, additional pieces with ti blades would be carbidized. I'm not personally a fan, so I left it off this one. I agree with you on the cord wrap.
