I recently bought a set of fixed blade Camillus knives that included model #18537 and Tigersharp model for a decent price cause I wanted to try the #18537. When I took the #18537 out of the packageing the metal bolsters fell off there was no signs of them being hit in transit or anything both knives were in a box that was in another box with packing material and there was signs of anything but bad QC. So I called them up and told them what happened they said no problem we'll send you a new one. I asked if they wanted me to send it back to them or should I just take it back to the place I bought it they said I didn' t need to send it to them. So since the 18537 was the one I really wanted and the Tigersharp didn't impress me I took the set back. I got the replacement knife or I should say knives cause they also sent me a 18538 which was cool cause I wanted to try the one out also. I debated opening them up and not just saleing them cause I was afraid of a repeat performance and I was almost right. I opened the 18537 and it didn't fall apart but when I sat it on my mousepad I could hear it rattle I didn't drop it or anything I just placed it on my mousepad on my desk so that pretty much killed the idea of me keeping it cause if it rattles now any type of field work would probably kill it. Then hopeing to get some sort of happiness out of this I decided wth I'll open the 18538. It didn't rattle or fall apart but the handle was really round and thick and not comfortable in my hand and the blade was DULL. The sheath for both of them was also very disapointing as both had really bad cordura sheaths that reminded me of the Gerber Prodigy sheath I got. Given that these street price for 50-60 bux I think that this is totally unacceptable and that I needed to give everybody a heads up.

Most depressing to hear.
How were the bolsters "held" on?
Was there signs of adhesive?

It was torx screwed into a tube and there was no signs of any adhesive at all. I should have took some pix cause the under side was rough and unfinished and had marker on it like they were numbering the part. I love my old Camillus USA knives but the new made in china/taiwan Acme knives with the Camillus name are a disgrace.

Thanks Cyblade!
I appreciate the details.
Shame.
The Camillus name was worth fighting for once.

My first decent fixed blade was the Camillus version of the Ka-Bar and I put that poor knife thru hell and while it's ugly as sin it still could be pulled out of retirement and brought into the field. First off before I go into details of the abuse of this poor defenseless knife I would like to state I was 13yo when I got it. First thing I did was used it to sorta drill a hole in 3/4" plywood and I wasn't gentle about it either, then since I didn't have a throwing knife I taught myself how to throw it over and over again and nothing got loose bent or broken, it dug, scraped, chopped and pried and would still sharpen up like nothing ever happend. I carried it everywhere when I was walking the woods near my house and while it never saved my life there were many times I was glad I had it on me. I miss the Made In Camillus NY USA knives.

Will cherish my "real" Camillus knives but the new chinese ones suck! Quality is just not there!!
