As a young buck in my mid-20's I remember getting into carrying pocket knives and liking SOG and Benchmade(H&K) for their tactical styling and assisted opening options seemly available in every other knife they produced. I didn't know about carbon steel, super steel, and the cheaper Chinese steels that the knives I liked were made from. I remember reading online that Spyderco was always at the top of recommended lists, but they looked weird to me. They weren't all black, aerodynamic and didn't have assisted openings. They looked a little too "simple", and for me being so young, they were pretty much too expensive for me.
About 10 years ago I saw the light. The weird contouring, the finger choils, and the lack of assisted options started to make sense to me. You become a home owner, have kids, you start to value tools more for how they perform rather than how they look. Now these days I even think Spyderco's look better than other tactical style knives.
How have everybody elses' tastes in knives changed over the years? Are there other levels of Knife Enlightenment i have yet to reach?
