Does HI offer or can they make a hanshee like the one Beoram posted ? I am in absolute love.
Please, please please !

Danny, I'm with you. That Hanshee is a knock out. Keep in mind they were made for Nepali women and they may not be very big. The couple in a book at home are about 19" OA.

Red,

I hadn't heard before that Hanshees were made only for women. Is it so?

Danny, which hanshee do you mean? the old one I posted recently for Rod Allen? Or the HI 'hybrid' m43-hanshee I posted a while back?

Beo, I know I read that on a post here, I think by JDP. But that was months ago.

the rod allen hanshee, oh man i love it.
the slender, curving blade profile is wonderful.
I could hack off many feet with one of those.

Hanshees were not made for women. If I said that I was wrong. The M43 is not a hanshee and no one that I know of is making an accurate replica. The example Rod sent in is a good one.

Here is a picture of a 15" HI BAS compared with a proper hanshee.

Bura has made an M43 variant that's a little closer to the hanshee in John's post. The handle was a partial stick tang, I guess to make it easier to get the curved shape. Also, the little ghoptes that showed up a while back had a pretty extreme curve to them. I don' t remember if the handle was curved. I also don't know if either is a regular item.

JDP, maybe I'm remembering wrong, it wouldn't be the first time (maybe the 3rd or 4th:D ). Still the grips are made for Nepalis who are what, about 5'6"-5'8". The guys here complain enough about how small some of the handles for Americans are.

And that's a funny thing, not ha ha funny, so maybe strange is a better word.
Terry was over before I sent my AC kukri's back for exchange and he commented on how Great the old handles felt!!!!
I'm almost positive it's the built in curve they have, but even a 4" handle feels really good, even in Terry's very large hand!!!!:D
And that's a discussion Terry and me have had many times before and always it seems when one of us have an old kukri with the curved handles. There is just something magical about them.
The curve actually locks your finger's into the handle. Rusty has mentioned this a time or two when talking about his M-43 I think it is.:D

One of the characteristics of a true hanshee is a VERY long handle. I am willing to bet that there is not a silverback gorilla, let alone a mere 6'5" American, who would find a hanshee handle too short.:)

Yvsa, you are correct, it was me who filed the top and bottom straps* 0f the M-43 to make it into a fully curving.

Sanu used to make fully curving khuks too, but his were forge engraved. "Sun, Moon, and Stars"** is one example.

( * upper and lower exposed tang )
( ** the name the kamis gave it )

IF the kamis will make a hanshee just like the Rod Allen hanshee, ill buy one right now.
Please please please
Im #1 buyer, who is #2?
