I wanna see customized Busses!!!!!!!
.
Hello, I understand that Ronybear has a few,
I'd like to see some, whoever has them.
No need to post the BM from Reese Weiland's site, cuz'
it's out there.
thanks.
BTW, I just bought a polished Badger with nice red micarta handles.
nothing fancy, probably more like business casual.... yeah, that's it.

After market customizations.....
I've seen a lot of in shop customs via Bad Mojo and you guys,
but hardly any aftermarket. I know Mr. Hankins puts a clip point on Busse, but how about handle mods, etc.
Although I have to say that PBF mod with the green handle was slick as poop on a pig....

Walking man, are you talking about this Inbred Fighter (PBF cousin)? I have a custom SHBM I'll post tomorrow.

man i forgot how much i miss the basics...

if i had the money, id rebuy a basic 3, 5 and 9 (crinkle coats), and a killer bee (no top swedge) in a heart beat

and id probably get another nick to play with

i dont think i can ever sell the set i have now, the sj style nick mod, 1/4" sj, and the serrated terror monkey... well, i might be able to sell the tm if i could replace it with a serrated fusion battle mistress, but the sj and nick mod sj are good as gold. the mod is pretty much perfect.

SM, I have never been much for the mods you have made to your blades (just personal preference mostly) but that PBF set is damned eye catching! Nice job.

a lot of that has to do with it being a good shot  i was so frustrated with the 6" and 8" by the time i finished them that i wasnt willing to redo the entire wraps to get out the bulges... if i had done them right (and considering how many brites it was, and the contours of the handles it would have taken another 16 hours/3 tries+ to get it right), they all would have looked like the 4" pbf, wich i am actually quite proud of. the 6 and 8 are working handles, and they dont look that bad, but they could be much better. waaaaay to tight to try to fix just by manuevering the weave afterwards...

as far as my mods go, im not going to lie, most of them do suck. the choil bit is generally functional, but it always comes out looking second rate, and i can see why most people wouldnt want them. the only choil ive ever seen that im okay with is the microtech dragonfly choil that slants into the edge, rather then curves into it. otherwise, im just not willing to own a knife with a choil that can catch and render the knife momentarily unusable, wich (sans experience/willingness to put up the time and effort to do it right) results in a lot of crummy looking mods :( .

and while the sj style NICK mod looks beat up and akward - it is everything i could hopefor in a blade with its dimentions :D maybe a thicker handle, but it doesnt take away from it any. if i didnt do the mods ive done, i would have never used the blades, i would have resorted back to my old standby leatherman.

and, looking back on them all (and its funny looking back, because i forget about some of them like the 3/16" dcbbas and the buffalo soldier, the rat shaker and the coot, the the bm+standard nick i took a loss on in an overseas trade), i have no regrets :)

Nice pics folks thanks.
Seth, why do you sharpen the choils?
.
Randucci, I'm also kind of wondering about how you put those round hole pins together yourself. I thought it was a Busse thing that couldn't easily be done at home. thanks.

from my understanding, all you need is a press with two tapers on both sides, and a vice that'll hold it straight to get the tubes to flare... could be wrong though

on all of the smaller busse's, whenever i tried to cut pretty well anything that wasnt stiff, be it cloth, string or plastic, it would snag in the choil, especially on the smaller blades like the as, the ad, and the bs. i figure (besides being a consistent and unending annoyance) that if i ever need my knife to do something, immediately, for the sake of safety, having something stuck in the choil and having me have to reset the cut to get it to do anything is a liability on safety. its outright dangerous. if i need a seatbelt cut (and i know i should keep it razor sharp - makes no difference) and part of it gets snagged in the choil and i have only 1/2 second to do it, i may be screwed because of it.

my sharpened choils dont cut marvelously like the actual edge (though they are the same angle), but i can pull down on it and it'll do the job, rather then just stretching what im trying to cut..

the reason i made my personal carry sj style nick mod sans choil is because i want to be able to index what im cutting completely blind. run the blade in down to the gaurd (on my finger) and slice away without having to look down. you can kinda do that with a choil'ed knife, but its hit and miss unless youve got a zen connection with it.

Hmmm, interesting, and good call, from a safety perspective.
From what you've said you could do the same by just rounding it off a bit, right?

to get it to where you could pull the material into the edge without having to physically lift the material off of the blade, and reset the material forward (toward the tips) to re-initiate the cut, it would have to be a straight slant like is found on the microtech dragonfly. wich requires more grinding then what i did to sharpen the choils.

with the sharpened choils, if it gets snagged and im in a hurry, i can pull the blade back and it will cut the portion that is snagged rather then let it slip onto the rest of the blade. not perfect, and putting a slat into the blade would be better, but im pretty lazy when it comes to... well... sadly everything...

and its not just for safety, it bugs the crap out of me every time i go to cut a plastic bag, and i have to pull the bag up or take my blade away to reset the cut to get it to work. i loved the active duty sans that one feature.
