I wanna small Sebenza...

I'm in the thinking stage on this. I want a small one to replace my Wegner Jr as a daily carry. I like the looks of that model with the trout fly on it (sorry but I don't know all the model names) but a plain jane small sebenza would be fine. Is the trout model the same size as a small Sebenza or is it a different model altogether.

Anyway, I'm wondering what to look for and where to get it. From what I've gathered, there has been some recent modifications and I would like to be sure that if I get one, I get the latest model. Am I correct in saying that the newer model is adjustable for wear in the locking mechanisms? Please educate me. What are the latest features and how can I make sure I get a new model, not an old model?

Also, this will be a daily carry work knife so I'm not sure I need all the nifty art work (nice stuff, though). How much should I expect to pay (roughly) for a newly minted plain jane small sebenza?

Hey Zora.(joke) The knife your refering to is the "fly sebenza" it cost about $390 for it or a decorated. If your not accustomed to paying this amount for a knife; the plain ones run about $290. Sometimes you can find one on the forums for sale cheaper. Up until yesterday I carried a small decorated one and love it. I just got my large decorated and am carrying that. If you do get a decorated one be aware that there is not one that is alike in design. The fly designs are the same. I'm not sure about the different lock designs. But if you want to be sure, I would say order directly from the factory. Or just ask any dealer you get it from, and I'm sure they will tell you when they got it. All Chris Reeve sebenza's have a "born on" date certificate. Here are some places you may want to order from. http://www.arizoniacustomknives.com, http://www.redcanyonknives.com, http://chrisreeve.com/ http://www.knifeart.com, http://www.tripleaughtdesign.com, http://www.nwcutlery.com, http://www.skylandscutlery.com, http://www.abc-direct.com

Hoodoo,

Actually, I think you're going to pay more like $290 for a plain. That's what I paid for mine right before Christmas, and they're the same no matter where you buy them from. I carry mine 6 days a week, and it too replaced my Wegner Jr. and Delica as my daily carries.
You won't regret it!
The Fly decorated are also cool, but I couldn't justify another $100 for it.
I could swear it said $240 the last time I checked.

A recent major modification is a cut out under the clip. This so the knife can be clipped to thicker clothing, and maybe increase the lock strength.(?) You can see pictures of the cut out in older threads from James Mattis. The only modification that has been made to increase lock wear is the ball detent which was upgraded from 440C to ceramic. However, this was done more than 3 years ago. Maybe by adjusting lock wear you mean the stop pin sleeve. If this is the case then all sebenzas have this feature.

Thanks everyone for all the good information. I feel I know a lot more about these knives now. I am sitting on the edge of making a decision. And with the new "classic" 2000 that just came out, if I decide I want one, now I have to decide whether I want the classic.

I just read an article on the classic but I'm not sure what all the differences are. It looks like the new classic has a larger cut out for the thumbstud but does it also have a reprofiled blade? Are there other differences?

The fly design hasn't been changed. In the CCG series it will be called the Pheasant tail and will be a constant design. (It won't change)

The Fly design, however, will still be offered in the unique line and each one will be different, just like the other unique models.

The CCG models will be $30.00 less than the unique models. You've already seen the prices.
