I wanna talk about Fantoni Knives...

Hey Guys,

I have been debating picking up a Fantoni HB 01 for some time now, and am about to pull the trigger... I was just wondering what the general consensus was on Fantoni knives... I know they make great knives, but I am looking for some info on the fit and finish specifically... I am trying to decide whether to start buying a few less expensive knives (just bought an XM 18 for full aftermarket price ) or just stick to the higher end/mid-tech/custom knives... I am a stickler for fit and finish, and any flaws, however slight fester in my brain until I ultimately sell the knife.

But this Fantoni looks like an amazing knife! Here is a pic of the one I am thinking of grabbing:

Aside from this particular model, does anyone have any info on Fantoni in general? I know they used to make knives for other companies, including the Chris Reeve Razionale.. My main concern is the fit and finish... I know the heat treat is tops, and the design looks awesome...

Anyone have one of these HB 01's?

Cheers!

You just got me very interested in this company. Time to do some reading! :D

Unfortunately I can't offer anything you don't already know, but that is one darn nice looking knife. Is it a working flipper? The guard looks like it would barely show itself when the knife is closed.

I have three knives made by Fantoni and all are excellent in terms of fit and finish.
The first one is similar to the one you pictured ( excuse my crappy pic) , but it's a Beretta branded knife. Technically it's a liner lock, but the liner is thick titanium. It's a Harsey designed knife and is pretty big , so I show it compared to a Strider AR.

The other is a Lone Wolf branded knife.

The third is an Ontario branded knife (Hossom Retribution II no pic)

I bought the two pictured knives 1st and was so impressed by them that I searched the web to find out who made them.

I liked the review on here and I really like the knife, but not for the price. It seems it should be $100 less.

Maddog, what makes you say it should be less $$$ ?? The average Street price for the HB 01 (larger than the HB 02) is about $250...

I am curious as I have never held them before, but $250 for a knife that is supposed to be high quality doesn't seem that bad...

Similar knives, with similar steels run under $200. I'm thinking of the ZT 0200, Benchmade Adamas $120-130. The combative edge m1 is $205, if it was Elmax or S35vn(my preference) then I can see it in the current market for production knives. I always think "what can I get cheaper"
Oh yea..lion steel D2 sr-1. Seen them from a dealer for $175

I have been looking at one of these for a while. The price is up there though.

The G10 used is the really grippy type that Blackhawk and Cold Steel use.

The flipper looks to be on the small side for sure. Will still need to give it a good flick of the wrist.

I have only found one dealer in the USA and they wanted $300 for the large version and almost $150 for the small one.

Renzo Fantoni is interested in having his brand considered alongside CRK for build quality. The Sebenza uses similar steels as these other knives, and people would love to get that for $250. Currency exchange rates have also played havoc with prices for a while. Fantoni is also the only brand to make a production run of CPM S125V knives, and they run their S30V harder than anyone else.

I had a Razionale and fit and finish was spot on and the action
was so smooth. Those HB 01's are lookers, but I myself was
eying the HB 02 in black.

Hi,

i'm a fan of Fantoni myself.
once i had a Fantoni Hide folder and liked it very much nevertheless i sold it!
i sold it merely because it was too stiff of a backlock and a two handed knife when closing:(
other than those things i really liked it.
the edge on the knife was razor sharp, the fit and finish perfect and it's beauty amazing.
I kinda regret selling it but those things really bugged me.
i also been thinking about buying an HB but i'm considering the 02 instead of the 01 simply because i prefer smaller folders to EDC.
perhaps this post has changed my mind and makes me pull the trigger:D

Anyway, here's the one i had:

I was in your position for a long time and I really wanted the HB01 due to its finish and quality HT as I have seen, but then I wanted a guardian tactical helix
