I wanna talk about the XM-24

So, as you know, I have an XM-24 on order, and I am watching the seconds it seems until the knife arrives... so in the meantime, I want to talk about the XM-24.

Those of you that have one, how do you find it's size for EDC and general usage? I know its a beast, but I have handled some folders that are just too big, that they feel cumbersome and have an over all clunkiness.

How are the ergo's? I have heard nothing but good things about Rick Hinderer's knives, so thats why I feel so confident buying it without first handling one (that and I know I can get all my money back if I ultimately dont like it [those that want first dibs on it in case I do decide to sell it, speak now ;)])

The one I am getting is CPM-S35VN steel, which I love! It is like S30V on steroids imo, and I find that it has a distinct increase in toughness over S30V. (Plus it shines up much better).

So anything that you wanna say about the XM-24 I am all ears. Whether you own one or not, I would love to hear your opinions.

So thanks, and Cheers!

Here she is (not my pic, but that knife):

I think you'll love it. Been carrying mine every day since I scored it at BLADE... My 3" and 3.5" XM-18's are jealous!
Here it is after a scale swap to orange next to its custom slicer grind CTS XHP counterpart scored at BLADE in 2010. :)

Everybody has different hands, but the ergos on all 3 XM sizes are perfect for me. The 24 is a beast for sure, but despite its weight and size, it doesn't feel as heavy clipped to the pocket of my jeans as I expected it to. Great knife, tough, sharp, a real winner.

I think that you'll be very pleased with it. :)

Here's a real beast of a folder I bought but it does have the overweight cumbersome/clunkiness factor going on. 4" blade AD custom with ti backspacer.

Compare to the XM-24 which is also a beast of a folder but the ergonomics, F&F and weight are all much nicer and there's nothing clunky about this bad boy! ;)

If you have medium or small hands you may find the XM-18 more to your liking (with lanyard, below the XM-24).

The XM's are so comfy to hold. Every attention to detail is perfect. All edges are smoothly radiused for "in hand" comfort and they feel like each size was made for you personally after tedious measurements of your hand were taken. They really are "all that!" I don't know how Rick does it but all of his folders are just wonderful to wrap your hands around.

I stopped pocket-carry over a year ago, and have been using a leather belt sheath ever since then. The XM-24 in a sheath (made by Lifter's Leather) is a dream. Carry is no more difficult than an XM-18.

Actually have my XM-24 in the back pocket today. Recently added the TI scale to it and love the addition. I have dubbed my XM-24 "Hoss" as it is truly a tank of a folder with great fit and finish (from the Urban Dictionary: "Hoss - One who is a beast that can basically do anything he wants. He is usually loved by all and a ladies man. He could break anyone or anything in half. Hoss is a compliment." . Even with its size it goes great in my back pocket and is very comfortable to carry. A little more noticeable than my Strider CC's but still easy to carry.

I love it. Hoss is da Boss! Sporting his new titanium jacket (pants, boots whatever).

Damn, those are all so awesome looking! Funny you should post that demko, I have one on order (or will when he gets around to his 2012 list) and am really looking forward to that one as well!

The guys at work all call me "Big Hoss"... So maybe your naming the XM-24, is a sign that this is the knife for me... just a thought... or an excuse.. whatevs

It absolutely is a sign from on high that you must have your own Big Hoss! :D

FredHoward, love the Ti! What made you decide on this pattern vs the Frag (offered by Monkey Edge)? Purely aesthetics? Availability? I'm saving up for one, so just wanted to get your thoughts.

Hey Guide, I think you already have an Umnumzaan, no? Here's a comparison shot of the two...

I tried to line up the butt ends of the two to give you an idea of the difference in size. Yes, the mighty Hoss (as it's now known, I take it :D) is a beast, but I don't regret getting it for a second, even though I now walk leaning to the right due to the weight of the thing...

I don't have huge hands, but rather stubby fat fingers, even so I don't feel that the grip is too big.

Echoing the other responses above, I think you'll love it. Let us know when you get it!

If I could only carry one folding knife it would be the XM-24. It is a large beefy folder that can handle a bunch of tasks. I don’t like using a folder to pry things with but occasionally I have had no choice but use my XM-24 or 18, and when I do I don’t feel bad about it. Just don’t forget, it is not a crowbar and should not be treated as such ;)

Here is a pic of one of my custom 24’s with its little brother:

Here is a shot of a 3” XM-18, 3.5” XM-18, and XM-24:

Pretty much availability. I knew I wanted to add the TI scale and it was in stock first on the Henderer website. From the pics I've seen of the Frag pattern it looks pretty cool as well. For me a toss up in aesthetics.

Do you have a picture of this sheath?! I'd sure love to see one.

Lifter's Leather - I think that's the name of the company.?? Here's some already made for the 18 & 24 with extreme duty pens.
