I just bought my first 55. I absolutely love the style, but want something bigger. Basically a 500 & 501 with the same clipped point and the long, curved, brass bolsters (this is probably the only knife I prefer brass bolsters on.)

They could call them the 33 & 44:-)

Not long ago that was what I wanted but this took care of it, all though I don't look for Buck to bring out a curved bolster version. They might surprise me though.

Another way to say this, is that a slim line 112 might be a nice addition to the line up.

My sense is that pocket carry is more popular than belt holster carry now. Along this line, I think the width of the Ecolites was a problem too.

I vastly prefer the wide feel of the classic 110 and 112 in my hand, mind you. So I don't want them going away.

But for me, EDC means pocket carry and pocket carry on knives of this weight demand (for me) that they be thin.

That's why I EDC a 500 and not a 112.

There might be a few alternatives for you to consider to a slim 112. The first one that comes to mind, because I have them, is the 174 and the 179. Both of these are frame lockers and have served me well. Love the clips that easily slip into a back pocket. Google them. Unfortunately they are out of production.
There are others as well.

PackRat, thanks for the reminder on that. I see the Spitfire/Slimline as being somewhat similar as more modern and thinner options.

But I really prefer the traditional look of the 110/112 (and 500).

Look for the now obsolete 111. A 110 with the same curved bolsters as the 55.

You got that right.

I have been looking for a 111 but I can't find one that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I would love to have a plain one that would be suitable for EDC.

a few years ago the 111 was all over the bay and I picked one up for under 30 bucks but I havent seen one forever, let alone at a good price.

Just picked up a 55 on Monday. Love the look but too, too small for me to carry. Looks good in the display though:D

Though mine isn't a standard 111 I talked the pawn shop down to $70 and I'm good with that. It's factory new without the box or papers and is probably the sharpest Buck of this style, 110/112 that I've had.

In my opinion, the best alternative to a slim 112 is a 532.

Bingo!

Or call it a drop-point 500.

I'd be all over a custom 112 if they'd just offer silver bolsters. Nickel 112s are going high on flea-bay, when they turn up.

I like the 110 and 112, but I wish they'd round the edges a bit.

Yikes, I meant clip point!
