Has Becker resolved this problem?

Thanks in advance,
Squashfan

(PS: I am too lazy to type tonight.)

Does the sheath still dull the blade? No. Has Becker resolved this problem? Yes.

My understanding from the Ask Toooj thread is that Ka-Bar reduced the glass content in the sheaths to make them more flexible and as a side effect it doesn't dull the edge as badly.

The problem has been fixed. I just got my 14 today and have sheathed and unsheathed it about a hundred times and it still splits atoms

Got a new laser etched BK-11 and still have the same problem...So nope, in my experience they haven’t fixed this issue. Don't let it put you off though, the 14 is still a great knife.

I too have a new 14 and still don't like the sheath, but like Cam said don't let the sheath turn you off. For twenty five or thirty bucks you can get a badass custom sheath! Not to mention the knife is used more than any other in my collection and trust me my collectin is BIG!

customs gave cam an old sheath. don't worry about him.

actually, if you get "old stock", you might get an old sheath.

so, order from a dealer you can trust, and ASK them if the sheath is a new one or not.

also: you don't need to sharpen your knife to be a c-hair splitting scalpel. that's just not field expedient. sharpen it, stow it, use it, sharpen it, stow it, use it...

I love the factory sheaths design and size. honestly for plastic or kydex type sheaths i havent seen a custom one that i like the LOOK of better. but this only applies for me to the bk11 and bk14.

When it comes to the other beckers i have seen alot i like better. but the factory ones still work just fine. i have a newer type sheath and an older. the older dulls the blade faster than the new. i have tested by sliding the blade over the outside of the sheath like im cutting it to determine this. but if you draw your knife putting pressure on the spine, not the blade you wont have any real issues with it. like bladite said sharpen it stow it then use it.

Dont worry about the sheath as much if you draw correctly, think about it like this, almost everything you will ever cut can and does dull the blade. be ready for it but dont let it stop you from using it.

sharpen it, stow it, use it, sharpen it, stow it, use it...

Bladite is wise. I much preffer this method as opposed to pull it, stow it, pull it, stow it, pull it, stow it.
My knives are always sharp.
Per the OP, I've never had a Necker sheath dull a blade.

Customs has never opened any of my packages and if they did do you think they’d randomly have a spare sheath lying around ...The fact that this still remains an issue too kinda bothers me to…I mean if you buy old stock yeah, you had it coming, don’t complain but for the newer blades I really don’t think there’s an excuse to why it still dulls the edge…Under no circumstances should a sheath ever mess with a blades edge.

To be fair though I did notice an improvement on my latest 11’s sheath in comparison to the one I got on my first 14 at the start of the year and at first I actually thought it was a completely non dulling sheath...Even though the sheath dulled the blade I actually managed to get it back up to a decent sharpness by stropping it on a piece of cardboard...Yeah, cardboard, no sandpaper or stones, just a regular piece of cardboard in my garage.

It's the shape of the sheath. I'm sure the softening of the material helps but it won't absolutely fix the problem. If you look inside the sheath you will see that the bottom of the insertion cavity is flat causing the edge to ride the plastic dulling it in the process. The bottom of the factory sheath is like this- ] And it needs to be like this- > Or at least this is my opinion. But don't get me wrong I love the knife, and the sheath, well for the money it works just fine.

He was just snarking you man... Don't take it so personal.

That said, a simple solution is a piece of leather down there, or a just pass a SMALL file across it a couple times and it won't do it.

OR do like I've always done (I've had 2 styles of 11/14 sheaths, I don't know which is the GFN with more glass) and press along the spine of the knife when pulling it and it doesn't have a problem. I haven't had a sheath responsible for any extra dulling of my knives.

Yeah I know, hence the roll eyes...Would've been an angry face otherwise haha :). Honestly I dont really care about the stock sheaths anyway. I'd just make myself a kydex sheath. Only brought it up since theres bound to be people who want to use the stock sheaths and really care about the dulling issue.

Thanks guys! My main concern was that I would have to put back on my Lansky system every time I use the knife. When I unsheath my CRKT Folts Minimalist, I try to pull it strait out.

I"ll preface this with I'm new to Beckers. But I've done a ton of reading on this forum. There was recently a lengthy discussion on this forum regarding the matter. Several people have had some issues with it. Some who have had issues said it wasn't significant dulling. Some said it's all about how you draw and sheath the knife, applying pressure against the spine. Much of the same advice has been passed on here on this thread by experienced Becker users. Then in my post asking about how folks EDC their 14's, the man himself said he carries his in the stock sheath. That satisfied me regarding whether I needed a different sheath or not. If the father of this line of blades has no issue with the stock sheath, I guess I can carry it until I find a reason not to.
