Ok guys need some help. I'm looking for a general all around hunting, camping, backpacking knife that I can also attach to my vest at work for when I'm on duty.

After all the reading on here and a few other sites I've decided on the Bark River Aurora.

Is there any difference in the handles or is it all person choice?

There aren't any dealers in my area so looking at them first is out of the question.

I've found them anywhere from 138 dollars up to 215 dollars.

Really like the Black and Green Linen Micarta look but can't find anyone who's carrying it. So far its the Black Canvas Micarta. Is there a difference in the linen to the canvas?

The canvas Micarta is more robust than linen, but I really doubt you'll notice much difference. Additionally, you should have a better grip with the canvas. If you're not into special handle material, the black canvas will make a great user handle for the Aurora.

Honestly, the handle choice is about personal preference. If it is a heavy user, you want to go with smooth handles (as opposed to Antique Stag Bone for example), but other than that, they are all durable and nice to use.

I just checked the 2007 production list for BRKT. Plenty of models in the heat treat and grinding stages of production, but the Aurora isn't one of them....this can't be good news for anyone shopping for one.

Is there a better knife than the Aurora to consider?

I don't know if you would consider them better than the Aurora, but my favorites are the North Star and the Canadian Special. It has been a while since they made any Canadian Specials, so they selection is thin. They just made some North Stars, you should have a good choice there.

The Fox River and Highland are also great knives.

Thanks for all the information guys. I gave in and bought a Black Canvas Aurora from Mcknight Cutlery.

Thanks for the link Grampa
