Anyone else think a D2 Izula would be a great addition to the ESEE family?

What would be your favorite steel to have the next Izula made from?

Honestly I'm very happy with the steel it's made with now.

I would like a slightly longer handle and they are working on that now.

I gotta go with good ol' 1095. D2 is REALLY good steel, but you need a good diamond set, IMO, to maintain the edge. My buddy had a Bob Dozier Master skinner in D2. Its badass, he sharpens it once a year, and most times it doesn't need it 'cause he only uses it for skinning, but when he sharpens it, he brings it to my house to use my DMT diamonds. VG10 would make a good Izula as well, but gives me ma' carbon steel. Moose

Word was, a while back, that some stainless models were in the works.

Not D2, but stainless just the same. I dont know if the Izula would be one of those models.

VG-10 with a partially serrated option would be nice. I like the size and weight of the original. Basically I'd like to see a stainless version made out of a tough SS so it can still be used for light prying if needed.

Now you're just messing with me. :)

I'd be tickled with a 440C version too. Heck, just make one out of all the common knife steels and all the super steels so we have something else to collect. :)

On my wish list...D2, 440C, VG10, ATS34, S30. Heck I'd even buy a AUS8 to put up against my 440C.

What else did I miss in steels to wish for?

I'd like to see a totally rust proof H-1 Izula 2,but I'd be happy with 440C.

VG-10 would be the ultimate. But since it seems that ESEE leans toward keeping it American (even if not US), then 440C would be my second choice. Followed by 154CM.

I'm happy with 1095. In the world of knives, stainless is a relatively recent addition. I'll put my carbon steel knives up against any stainless for cutting ability and edge aggression.

If however, stainless is in the works, then the old standby 440C would be the ticket.

I would buy a couple of VG-10 Izulas, but not really interested in 440C or D2 (for my uses, I don't think it justifies the upgrade). What I would really like is 3V, specially for the RC3 and RC4.

im quite happy with the 1095. it also keeps costs down, i imagine stainless knives would cost more.

I'm not saying where, but I just found a D2 and a 440C copy. The 440C is selling for $20 and the D2 Cryro version is selling for $24 (kit not included).

I'm tempted.

I have issues with copies though.

I like 1095 and other carbon steels a lot. I carry around a slipjoint usually of that variety at all times (GEC - very nice :D). As long as you get a knife that has a good heat-treat (ie ESEE and GEC) it holds a good edge, is pretty tough, and most important to me, it is easy to sharpen to hair-popping edge. A lot of "super-steels" give you more toughness but are a pain in the butt to sharpen back up especially in the field.

Ah VG10. Or the 1086v custom. Not much of a stainless fan here. (Old school forging blood) Just to see what it would do?? is a test of N690co. Kind of a 154cm with vanadium and cobalt. That would be a fun one to test out. edgy:thumbup:

The 1086v/c is what Howard Clark forges. = tough!!!!Very tough.
