I want a folding karambit

I want a folding karambit. So I like the Maxace blacklight karambit. However, I came across this one by Hightron called the GlaClaw. Not sure how I feel about an acrylic handle but it looks cool. Anybody have any insight on this? I could see the acrylic handle breaking one day and my hand ending up being cut.

The CRKT Provoke got a lot of buzz when it came out. Doubt it will break.

Yes, I agree get a trainer first. If you are still interested, checkout Fox knives and Spyderco. Of course, there are many others.

They are pretty limited in daily use, so if it is the curved blade that interests you, I'd look to hawkbill knives which have a broader use case.

You might want to edit the thread title, in that case.

Having suffered various hand cuts over the years, including one that needed surgery, I recommend sticking with tried and true materials for knife handles. Do they tell you which acrylic is used?

The hightron glaclaw handle appeara to be a skeletonized acrylic with no steel liners or other structural frame underneath. I’d say your concerns are valid as the handle looks absurdly prone to breaking.

I like that. It still has the wild look but the blade is curved just enough to be really useful!

It's a good mix of practical and mall ninja.

I think the manufacturer needs to post a video to show how tuff the acrylic handle is. I know acrylic can handle high impact but that is in relationship to the thickness of the acrylic. I hope they post a video soon or someone eats the cost and puts a hammer to the test.

I like to know more before I make suggestions. Is it for self defense? Then normally a trainer would be solid advice, but I wouldn't even get that far, given the weak handle. Is it for light cutting? Then a trainer is not needed at all, and the handle may be sufficient, but I wouldn't risk it myself. Is it for hard cutting? Insert laugh emoji in a font size several times larger than those offered on the forum.

I'd suggest a River Hawk from New River Knife Works. Fixed blade, in the same size category, and no strength worries whatsoever in either role. There were only about 34 ever made, and only five are left on his site. I don't know if I will ever make them again, since they are a design that I agreed to keep exclusive to his dealership.

Never heard of the brand and not a fan of what I'm seeing. Huge difference between acrylic and fiberglass reinforced nylon when it comes to long term durability imo.

My favorite folding karambit at the moment is the Reate Exo K.

And there is a Grivory version.

The way it folds you won't get your fingers caught in the blade path unless you're trying out for the circus.

Buy a trainer and dont do what I did when I was drunk, twirl (flip, spin?) the karambit until the tip went straight into my forearm.
Train, do tricks with a trainer, use a live blade.
Now for the suggestions---
Bastinelli, Fox knives make good karambits
