I made this knife from a kit a couple of years ago. I like the knife but there are a few problems with it.

1. When I put a lot of pressure on the blade when cutting, the liner lock tends to get jammed and is difficult to release.
2. The lock malfunctioned on me once and the blade partially closed.
3. The thumb stud is somewhat difficult to use due to it's location.

I am looking for recommendations for a similar knife but overall better quality. I am looking for

1. Good quality steel. Can you be specific?
2. Secure locking mechanism
3. One handed opening
4. Price not more than $100 - Preferably less.
5. Blade length around 2 inches
6. Pocket clip

Thanks for your help.

Here is the easy, quick and useful suggestion.

Go to the home pages of Spyderco, Benchmade and Kershaw.

If you don't find something there you like I'll be very surprised.

Not sure exactly what you're looking for, but here's a great knife:

http://www.spyderco.com/catalog/details.php?product=17 (regular handle)
http://www.spyderco.com/catalog/details.php?product=272 (etched handle)

Has a VG-10 steel blade, which is a high quality steel. Just under 2 inch blade (1.75 cutting edge). Very small and slim. Very strong frame-lock. I really like the double recurve blade design, YMMV

MSRP on these knives are 85 and 105, but they can be had for ~55 and ~65 on various dealer sites.

Good choices Nikx. I have a Cricket and it's a very handy little knife. It's also my "suit" knife, on those occasions I'm forced to wear one.

I'm tempted to grab one of those etched handled ones too ....
